We’ve stayed at the Harbour on 3 separate occasions, each time booking (fairly) last minute on a low cost accommodation website. On this occasion we stayed for one night over the weekend (Saturday).
High points:
-The hotel is centrally located, on the Galway docks approximately 5 – 10 mins walk from the heart of the centre.
-The hotel is functional and the rooms are basic, but adequate if all you are looking for is a place to stay/sleep. On all 3 stays we noticed that there seemed to be a lot of hen and stag groups using the hotel.
-As aforementioned – we have always booked the hotel on a low cost hotel site (octopus travel) and have generally secured relatively cheaply. Total cost was €130 B+B for a Saturday night.
-The breakfast is good, a good variety of cooked foods. We looked at the bar menu and there seemed to be a good variety available.
-Hotel has its’ own car park so parking is provided free of charge.
Low points:
-Don’t go to this hotel if you are looking for luxury. The standard of accommodation is very basic and the standard rooms are quite small. The hotel has been operational for a few years now and I would imagine that it has not been subject to much re-decoration (carpet on stairs worn with holes and stains throughout, stains on carpet in bedroom, marks on the white bed linen, bathroom was very grubby with black stains on the grout in the shower/bath).
-There was no A/C in the room so we had to open the windows. As our room backed on to an apartment complex we were awakened early in the morning. If your room was facing the front of the hotel you would have been subject to traffic noise as the hotel is situated on a main road.
-As room was small, the bed was small. Being used to sleeping in a big bed we found this a challenge!
-No room conveniences i.e. mini bar etc.
-Staff can be quite abrupt, though I would have to say that some are very friendly and helpful.
All in all I would grade this as 3* Hotel - fine for short “functional” visits, hen/stag nights etc.
