“Galway Races”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for 2 nights during Galway races.... Price was reasonable compared to other hotels but still expensive for hotel standard. That's what happens every year! I have stayed here twice. During our stay for the races, hotel was busy, they offered us a glass of champagne in the lobby on ladies day which was a nice touch. Rooms are basic, beds are comfy, but the bathroom is like something out of a travel lodge hotel. Breakfast was nice and there was plenty of selection. Staff were nice and friendly. I would stay again as the location is so good, walking distance to all shops, restaurants and bars!!

Had a lovely return visit to Harbour Hotel with friends. Delighted with the refurbishment as it was ongoing on our last visit. The staff were delightful. The food was delicious and served with extra touch. Great thought put into Valentine night dinner. The rooms were clean and comfortable. the lobby very comfortable and parking available at hotel. The hotel is so accessible from city centre

I really liked the hotel, its not upmarket, yet everything was really fresh, pleasant, modern, very nice staff and a good breakfast. Very good value too. Comfortable beds. Could have done without the constant 80s pop music in the restaurant but not a big deal

Room Tip: Our room faced the back & was quiet, rooms facing the road may be noisy.

Stayed here with my wife recently and we had a really enjoyable stay.
The hotel is perfectly located with a short, pleasant walk to the main Shop Street
The hotel itself is very impressive and feels more like a 4 star. Our room was large and spotless, the staff were firendly and efficient, and the food was excellent!!
There was also a lovely atmosphere in hotel bar on the saturday evening which was perfect for eveing drinks.Overall we were very impressed and we will be booking the Harbour Hotel again for our next trip to Galway in May.

Met friends on a Sunday to have food and watch a match. Although there were plenty of staff on, not one person approached us with a menu. \When we did get menus, no-one approached us again to take an order. The man who eventually took our order looked to be a member of management/supervisor, didn't write it down and of course got it wrong. I again had to go looking for someone to help me as no-one even acknowledged us. Quality of food was poor as was the service...very disappointing. Won't be returning!

We went on a hen weekend in Galway and stayed here - can't compliment them enough! Nothing was too much and the staff were very friendly and highly professional! Small things like changing the heating settings in the room, recommendations for where to go out etc. all made our weekend even better. Management had a great presence and was very approachable! Looking forward to my next visit!

Stayed here mid-week in early January for three nights. The hotel lobby is plush and welcoming and tastefully decorated. We parked in the car park which although wasn't free, it was very cheap for Galway standards and is completely secure.

Check in was hassle free and the receptionist was friendly, informative and polite. We were allocated a standard room, which although nothing to write home about was very comfortable, spotlessly clean, well laid out and full of all amenities needed. The bed was also comfortable. I would rate the room at the top end of the 3 star hotels I have stayed in before.

The hotel bar is not very big but it we were able to get a seat with no problems. We were offered table service which was a nice touch but opted to sit at the bar. The bar man was nice and friendly but also professional at the same time.

The highlight of the stay has to be our evening meal on the first night. The meal was excellent in every aspect. At check in we were given a voucher for dinner for 2. For €40, this voucher entitled us to 4 courses each! To be honest I was a bit apprehensive about using this voucher as usually these packages come with a limited and quite frankly boring menu. Not here! The menu we were given was pretty much the sames as the a la carte menu which gave us a choice of I think 5 different options per course. All the food was delicious and I highly recommend the sea bream and the opera gateaux. The service was that of a high quality restaurant charging a lot more than here.

Breakfast was of a similar standard to dinner. Plenty of choice, hot food was hot, didn't wait for coffee and got a free paper. The waiting staff looked genuinely happy and all of them looked focused on the guests needs. One suggestion would be to have beans on the buffet but hey, that's not a big deal.

Check out was as pleasant as check in.

Overall we thought this was an excellent hotel and would be recommending it from now on and will continue to use it. The service was great, the food was delicious and the price was right. The only down side is the lack of a pool.

Keep up the good work.
