Unlike the last review, I found the Harbour hotel to be excellent value for money. It is superbly located and is easily accessed without having to go into the town centre. The staff were very firendly, welcoming and check went without a hitch.

The sizeable room (and hotel in general) was spotless and looked out onto the car park. I was very impressed by the styling and decor in the room and it had either been recently renovated or very well maintained. The bathroom was spacious with a large bath/shower and the usual accessories.

Breakfast was decent with a large selection of both hot and cold foods available as well as the usual breads, pastries, fruit, etc.

If I were to have any complaints it would be about having to pay for car parking and I can understand how a room at the front of the hotel could be noisey.

Knowing I was going to be writing this, I was purposely looking for faults with the hotel but my stay was most enjoyable and compares favourably when compared with other hotels I have used in Galway. I would have no hesitation in using this hotel again.

First, be aware that the hotel no longer offers free parking. The discounted rate is 11 euro. The hotel is about a 3-5 minute walk from the shops and pubs in Galway. The hotel is a decent value (we got it for 58 euro for two people). But, you might consider passing on it if you are interested in luxury or class.

Second, the rooms are very shabby. They are definitely showing their wear and are in need of refurbishment. The bathroom showed mold and mildew. Our soap holder was also missing a piece and barely hanging onto the tile wall.

Our room faced the street and was quite noisy during the night when guests were returning from the pubs. I would not describe the windows as sound-proofed. The front desk staff were rather unfriendly and unhelpful. I would only recommend this hotel to those on a budget.

Myself and boyfriend stayed in the Harbour Hotel in Galway in Nov 2007 for the weekend. The rooms are small but nicely decorated. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our first night. It was expensive but very tasty! We also had a drink in the bar on Sat night and the bar man who served us was really friendly.
Location of hotel is great - 5 mins walk will bring you to Eyres Square or into the heart of the citys beautiful cobbled streets.

This was our first time to Galway together and we really enjoyed it. There was a lovely laid back vibe in the city.
Salthill was gorgeous and we drove around Connemara up to Clifden which was really scenic.

Great weekend!!

  • Liked — The location was great and the hotel was nice and clean
  • Disliked — Lights in bathroom were really artifical and bright - minor personal preference!

I'm a regular at this hotel, staying probably 5 times a year.
The rooms are clean, comfortable and even those on the road are well soundproofed.
Downstairs the restaurant food is excellent and the food in the bar isn't far behind in quality and presentation. As usual in Ireland, the staff are friendly and welcoming.
I'll be back!
