We stayed here for 3 night over the Easter weekend in a junior Sweet. The room was a really nice spacious room as you expect from a suite, and looked newly decorated. We had an evening meal as part of the weekend. We are big seafood fans and thought the menu looked good. The food was terrible however. We had crabclaws for starters that were fried from a burned pan and were completely ruined. They even managed to make Monkfish totally bland. Maybe the regular chef was off, The wine list was decent..
Our big story however was the hotel held a 21st and an 18th separate birthday parties on the Saturday night. The noise was very excessive and when I complained I was told their was no security, as they didn't turn up for work. We were awake until after 3am. I am told functions are frequent here and can only assume the hotel mainly caters for weddings etc at weekends and business users during the week as there was a business park across the road. Outside of that I think not, which may explain why they didn't build any kind of leisure area.
Nobody either the next day or upon checking out took the time to approach us to apologise or make any gesture after the noise situation. as we had made our feeling known to a manager. We didn't bother speaking about the restaurant. Staff were poorly trained especially in the restaurant. I dont blame the staff for this as it's up to the hotel to train them. I even had the room service guy hand me a huge breakfast tray all in, standing in the doorway as he didn't want to come in and put it on the table.
The architect of this building has a lot to answer for putting the door to function room (knowing about the smoking ban) outside the windows of their suites..
If you are going to Galway for a family or couple weekend I suggest avoid here. If in Galway and you love seafood, I would suggest however a restaurant called O'Gradys on the pier in Bearna. Amazing fresh seafood and some great wines. Our highlight of the weekend.
