we spent 2 nights in the hotel last weekend.
tthe reason we choosed this hotel is that we are used to their hotel in Dublin and found the Ibis galway one the cheapest in town for the weekend. we paid 52€ a double room per night via their website special offer.
do not expect a high tech designer/boutique hotel, Ibis is more like travelodge or premier travelinn , thus rooms was larger than in a standard ibis for those who are familiar with them in france. Both bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean.
we appreciated the complimentary water provided in answer to the water problem the area is experiencing.
we found the staff extremely courteous and friendly. A special mention to the receptionist "Dorota" whom went the extra mile by taking the time to explain us what to do and see in city center.
As a general comment, we found what we paid for, a clean budget hotel with friendly staff.

Definately would NOT recommend staying here. Completely over priced and totally not worth it. Hotel is extremely shabby. Elevator was really noisy, could hear it all night. Breakfast was awful.

Worst Hotel I've ever stayed in

Not sure I know where to start with what is not only the worst hotel exeprience of my life but possibly the worst customer service too.

During our stay for 3 nights we had to change our magnetic key card for our door 3 times, another couple in our party had to change theirs twice as well.

The reception, in fact the entire front area was left unattended on 2 occassions when my door card had failed leaving me to search for an employee to get into my room

On arrival they wanted to take not just an imprint of my card but aothorisation including me entering my pin number. Not only this but they wanted me to authorise an amount over €100 in excess of the cost of the room for the 3 nights "in case I decided to use any of the hotels services". After questioning employees it was obvious that there was no set practice for this and they all quoted different prices that they would try and charge to a customers card. To top it all without me being present they, allegedly, cancelled the original authorisation and authorsed my card for a second amount which only included the room. I say allegedly because the hotel never gave me the original credit card slip or the notice of cancellation.

Staff refused to get food from the 24 menu because their shift was due to finish in 10 minutes (we only wanted a sandwich).

The bin in the room was never emptied, the room smelt musty and the decor was old and tatty.

On top of all of this not once during the 3 days did a single member of staff a any point apologise for the inconvenience I or any of our party had been caused.

I wrote to Ibis detailing all of the issues and the response was yet again a letter explaining away all of the issues, it did at the end finally have an apology, which was far too little much further too late.

If you can avoid it do, I woudln't wish this on my worst enemy.

Although on the ringroad, this hotel is not far from the town and a short Bus fare or taxi is not a problem.

Checked in on a busy weekend having booked and was given a room that on entering smelled musty as if it had not been used for a while. Was surpised how noisy it was so went to close the windows only to discover that it was closed but had a 2inch gap in the frame. This would not have been a problem if the room wasn't facing the Ringroad and being on the ground floor. Obviously the reason it was smelling unused as people would most likely refuse to stay there.

Anyway after insisting on another room which smelled nice and looked clean went out to enjoy the delights of Galway -what a nice place! Got back about 11:00 and went to use the bathroom. Seemed nice enough apart from the big crack in the sink which pourer water all over the floor.

Needless to say I checked out the next morning as life is too short to spend trying to sort out new hotel rooms at 11:30

My advise is to book early in Galway and try one of the Hostels in town - they look much nicer - better location and are noticably less Shabby. Alternatively try a nice B&B as staying at this Ibis has put me off the chain which used to be my favourite of all the budget chains.

Seems that I was given 2 duff rooms so perhaps it was just bad luck - who knows....

  • Liked — Leaving
  • Disliked — Discovering how bad the bathroom was so late at night
  • Tips/Secrets: — If you must stay here insist on a room away from the Dual Cariiage way and Check the Bathroom for cleanliness

I booked this hotel because I couldn't find anything centrally located in Galway for my price range. The Galway Arts festival was just wrapping up and the Races we're beginning the day we checked out. I didn't see a lot of reviews on this hotel, but the ones I did see weren't that great. I wanted to write that my husband and I didn't disapprove of the Ibis Galway at all. My only real gripe was that all of the vending machines and the computer with internet access were out of order. I was starting to think they didn't repair things very often and that the elevator would break down soon. Other than that the rooms were pretty basic and clean. There wasn't a lot of fancy furniture, mostly IKEA quality/style desks and chairs. On the TV I was surprised to find a German language and French language station on the menu since there were only 7 channels all together. I couldn't complain, though. It was a very resonably priced hotel and there were many families with children. There was a lounge with a small resident's bar and restaurant too. In my opinion it is a good place to stay if you don't plan on spending much time in your room.

  • Liked — Resonably priced and clean
  • Disliked — Broken equipment, loud talking elevator
  • Tips/Secrets: — Don't ask for a room near the elevator. Try to stay down the hall where it won't disturb your sleep.
