We stayed here in June 2004 on a return visit having lived in the city for 8 years previously. Without a doubt the only thing this hotel has going for it is it's location. Rooms facing the street/river have a great view and it is very close to restaurants and nightlife.
When we arrived our room wasn't ready and we couldn't check in for 3 hours. The room was not cleaned or serviced properly. The staff were generally unhelpful. Items were stolen from our room including jewellery (not expensive) and unfortunately my boyfriend's credit card details (700 euro was charged to it). I've just read another review from someone who also had items stolen from their room. So despite what the management say it is a staffing issue. Security at the hotel is appalling and we witnessed on two occassions altercations at the front door late at night. The noise didn't really bother us but if you are sensitive to such things I can see how it would be a problem.
Galway is such a great town with many excellent quality hotels and B&Bs and despite all of the above we really enjoyed our trip 'home', however an experience like this could potentially ruin a holiday. Do yourself a favor give this hotel a miss, try the Radisson or Brennan's Yard.
