Found this hotel to be great for my purposes. I wanted a hotel in the centre of Galway for accessibility and this place was perfect. Reception areas were very nice. We has a triple room overlooking shop street. There was a little noise at night, but not too bad. The room was comfortable and clean, although the bathroom was a little worse for wear. There was a lot of mildew and peeling tiles. It just needed a face lift, but was fine for the price and location.

Driving into Galway we were a little worried, since driving is very confusing, but I had found Jury's as an option because it was close to a poker room my husband wanted to check out. It turned out the Jury's was not too expensive (99E) especially since there was garage parking right next to the hotel, and all you had to do is step out of the hotel and you were in the main shopping/dining district.

The hotel at the time had a water ban due to some contaminants in the city's water system, but the thoughtfully provided bottled water in the bathrooms to brush your teeth with, and also water coolers in the hallways for water to drink.

The room was serviceable, clean and neat. I loved the coffee bar downstairs.

The only downside was the street noise at night. Jury's is right by a bridge going over the river, so it's a congregating place for all the teens. But I didn't find it too annoying.

I can't remember the name of the poker room, but if you contact me, I'll find my picture and tell you the name. My husband ended up winning 500E and had a great time.

Stayed here late November 2007, the hotel is fabulous if you want somewhere nice and hassle-free to kip while you explore this brilliant city. Parking was right next door, which was very handy, and the hotel couldn't be better located, right at the end of Quay Street. About twenty second walk away from some brilliant places to eat and drink.
Rooms were nice, airy, and clean, staff very friendly, didn't use the bar or restaurant, but they looked fine to me.
I stayed in one of the rooms above the kitchen so there was some noise, but nothing that bothered me once I'd realised how close the city was.
Will be going back to Galway and will be staying at Jurys again!

We stayed here during the last week of August for two nights in a room that had two full sized beds and paid 149 euro per night. It was fairly expensive considering this is not at four star hotel, but having been to Galway before I knew that the location would be ideal. When we arrived, I was surprised at how pleased we were with the room, we had a gorgeous river/park view room that was exceptionally quiet and very suitable to our needs. The partying that people talk about were not the least bit audible from our room, and even when we left our room the first day, once in the hallway we heard the kid next door SCREAMING his head off, and when we were in our room we didn't hear any of it, in fact didn't even know there was a kid in the room. Are the rooms soundproofed? It seemed like it! Don't get me wrong, the room was suitable, not luxurious, and the faucet in the bathroom sink was bearly still fastened to the sink.....but the room was scrupulously clean, and we felt very comfortable there. Once when we were coming back to the room really late after a party we were shocked to see the mobs of drunken revelers that seem to hang out outside the hotel--pretty intimidating if you are trying to get inside (especially with a little 3 year old as we have) but the hotel does a great job of keeping those folks away from the door and having a security guard that has a listing of everyone in the hotel and actually checks it before he lets you in. And truthfully, we weren't even aware of the partygoers outside because of the location of our room, so considering the hotel deals with them well, it doesn't bother us. The location is truly perfect, it's great to walk out your door and be in the center of things. Also, traveling with a three year old, is also a great place to be comfortable and not worry about your kid breaking things or being looked at crossly. I would say a downside though was the lack of air conditioning--for us it was a bit stuffy at times, but not worth complaining about. But if we had been there on a hot day we would have been upset. Also the breakfast is a little crappy for 9 euros, you can do better heading out into town. We thought the parking was great--locked up at night, safe, attached to the hotel, 10 euros per day, all in all a great bargain for us and much appreciated.

All in all, we weren't looking for a romantic, luxurious experience---we had our little daughter with us and just wanted a clean, safe, comfortable place to stay which is what we got. And then the added benefit of the hotel's location and the wonderful view from our room made it worth paying 149E for a room that without those things would not be worth more than 100E.

It was just perfect for our needs.

  • Liked — great view from room, felt safe and comfortable, location directly in the middle of city activity, good parking, quiet
  • Disliked — broken bathroom fixtures, no air conditioning, breakfast not great

We were 2 adults staying here. Impossible to get any, and I mean any accomodation in Galway that busy August weekend. We stayed one night 122Euro for a twin room, not that cheap for a 3 star hotel. But it was lovely, far superior to the many chain hotels we stayed in abroad. Its location is superb. Perhaps we were lucky in that we had a bright room overlooking the rushing river and views beyond. The room was sparkling, with bright modern decor, and a lovely bathroom. Staff were so nice and helpful. The foyer is lovely and I checked my son's CAO points on the internet at reception. Because of our room orientation we had little noise. Breakfast could be more imaginative perhaps. Staff directed us to all the delights of Galway: the magical, secret little streets, Kirwans Lane, Goya teashop, Byrnes wonderful bookshop, the eerie echoing streets of Nun's Island, and everywhere the dark rushing water, glimpsed from cafe, restaurant or boardwalk. Old Galway is a marvel and Jurys is at the heart of it.
