This B&B was favourably reviewed in Lonely Planet, so we made our way there without having prior reservation. Mary had a room available, but it was not ready for guests at the time we arrived. She sat us down for tea with bread and jam while she prepared the room. In most hotel and B&Bs you leave your luggage and wonder outside for an hour or two.

The room (en suite) was small, cosy and VERY clean. It radiated the feeling of hominess (is there such a word?).

When we crawled into bed after exploring the town all day, we found that Mary has put a hot water bottle to warm the bed up. It was a welcome surprise, considering that it was cold and rainy outside.

We looked forward to breakfast in the mornings, especially fresh-squeezed orange juice and bread.

Tubbs was pretty cute, too. He is a very affectionate and friendly dog, although Donie says that "he is all courage".

Hot water bottle, orange juice and Tubbs were the highlights. And hospitality, of course.

We loved this B&B, would recommend it and stay there again.

By the time we found St. Martin's (don't ask the tourist information in Galway to give you directions- they sent us to the wrong street where we knock on everyone's door and found a Mary who had a St. Martin's B&B but closed it), by the time we found the right place, we were exhausted but Mary was very friendly. The rooms were very comfortable and the B&B is in a great location to walk to the bars and restaurants. The breakfast was a good traditional irish breakfast that you get at every B&B we stayed at in Ireland. But BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PARK! We parked where Mary told us to and when we went to car the next morning, we had been clamped- costing us 80 EUROs to unclamp it.

My daughter and I stayed with Mary and Tubs [we never met Donie] at St. Martin's B&B in May, thanks to the positive reviews found on-line. The experience was delightful and will help to sustain me until we can visit Ireland again.

Right in the centre of the nicest city in Ireland, this B%B is more or less perfect. Mary and Donie are welcoming hosts, the rooms are great, the food wonderful and the views excellent. Top notch.
