“Disappointing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

I brought a friend out here while we were killing an hour on Saturday. We were going to try the pizza place in the Twelve but I decided to opt for Padraicins as I remembered going there when I was younger and it being really nice.

We walked in and kind of stood at the door for a moment or two as staff passed us without any acknowledgment, so we just decided to take our own table. Our waitress was flustered and looked under immense pressure although it was not very busy in there at all. Menu was extremely basic and the specials were boring too. I was hoping for some sort of seafood platter but the only options were hake or plaice (as far as I can remember), at about 18EUR each. Judging by what was coming out I was not going to pay 20 euro for a piece of fish with mash and boiled veg.
As the menu was so boring we decided we'd have lunch and eat out again later. I ordered a tuna and red onion wrap and soup. Soup was minestrone and tasted like it came out of a tin. There was a slice of brown bread with it that tasted like a piece of cake it was so sweet. Very odd. I mean a restaurant called Padraicins which is in Connemara should have AMAZING homemade Irish soda bread. This was just weird.
Wrap was just bog standard with about three miniscule shreds of red onion, a borderline stale supermarket wrap and it wasn't even wrapped properly.
No atmosphere in the place at all.

Thanks for taking the time to review on trip advisor. The various points that you mentioned are taken on board and we are improving our service for our customers right away. In regards to our minestrone soup, like all our soups, they are homemade and sorry it was not to your liking. Our homemade soda bread is in fact a sweetened bread which a lot of our customers really enjoy and many purchase loaves to take home. So maybe we will try a regular soda bread offering as well so that customers can have a choice of both breads. Thanks again for taking the time to review as your comments are much appreciated.

“Awful Service + Average Food = Take Your Money & Time Elsewhere”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

This was the second time that I've eaten in this establishment. #1: For claiming to be a "seafood" restaurant, the amount and variety of seafood on the menu is rather limited and the offerings are nothing special. #2: They need to seriously speak to the staff about what it means to be courteous and attentive. Both times I was totally unimpressed with the low level of service. For example, this time, when we walked in, we were given a paper menu, and told that we could sit anywhere. We seated ourselves-and the waitress never came. After 15 minutes, we had to go find someone to attend to us. When they did come, they were totally unapologetic and aloof. In fact, we had experience with two different waitresses on this night, and both had the same dull and cold approach. #3: This time (as happened the previous time we came here) they were of course, out of a number of key dishes on offer--and we came in early to eat at 6pm! #4: I also question the cleanliness of this establishment--as both times the tables were sticky, and there is an overall stale stench in the air. All in all--the food is nothing special to write home about--and the prices are on the higher side in my opinion. While the building looks promising from the outside and has a beautiful seaside location, I would highly suggest that you keep driving and spend your time and money elsewhere. We, for our part, will not be back.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review to Trip advisor. On the various points that you raised :
our staff have all read your review and have taken the points on board, as winter is approaching business tends to slow down as we are a seasonal business, we try to offer freshly cooked dishes so this will occur from time to time. But we endeavour to replace these dishes to improve the offering and thanks for making the point. Our premises is well maintained and housekeeping & cleanliness is very important to us. We try to offer value for money dishes and we believe that we are very competitive in this regard throughout Galway City & County. Hope to see you return again in the near future.

“Brilliant, simply brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2012 via mobile

Well we were looking on the net for somewhere to stay in Galway and ended up here. My family were really looked after and the kids had a ball on the beech nearby. The food was top class, it was fresh and the fish (garlic prawns, seabass etc) was beautiful. The people made us very welcome when we arrived and the room was very clean. As a family of 5 from Liverpool we found the Easter holiday relaxing and we were lucky with the weather. I would recommend this family run hotel to any one looking for a short break on west coast of Ireland. Traditional music, hearty breakfast Connemara scenery outstanding. Will definitely stay again, great value for money.

“Quality Gone Down Hill Alot”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2011

Went for Sunday lunch, There was eight of us. Have eaten in Padraicins often but was very disappointed on this trip. Serve was slow even though restaurant was quiet at the time. The streak was fatty and poor quality. The chicken which four of us ordered was very dry with no good taste. The turkey was dry too. The veg are mashed so much their horrible. Won't return again. This used to be one my favourite places cause location is lovely. The Manager and staff need to do a lot to improve this place.

“Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2011

Went to Padraicíns for dinner, the service was great, the food was wonderful with good portion sizes. It is right on the sea so in the daytime the view would be really nice. The maritime theme of the restaurant makes it feel really cozy.
