“Small IS beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Wandering down Shop Street in Galway we were looking for a nice fish restaurant in mid afternoon. Druid Lane had a board outside advertising "Fish and Chips". Fish and chips does not adequately describe what we got- a beautiful piece of cod in the lightest batter imaginable cooked to perfection accompanied by "skins on" real home made chips. This was washed down by a beautiful French white wine, suggested by our amiable host. The restaurant which is small was quiet at the time and we had a great chat with the proprietor, spending much longer than we originally intended and leaving with a bottle of her previously recommended French vintage to enjoy at home. A "quick snack" became a very enjoyable afternoon!

“Not good value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Dined in this restaurant last weekend, for old times sake, as had been there a few times in years past. Was very disappointed.
STARTERS Pate and chicken wings for were nice but as a finger bowl with the chicken wings I was given a sauce dipping bowl? A breadbasket, with 3 slices of brown bread, for 2 of us, and a dish of butter out of which the butter had fallen was given with the starters and not beforehand.
MAIN COURSE Prices aren't low, considering €26 for a steak and €17 for fish and chips. Steak was good. Fish and chips could have been a lot better. I wasn't expecting a tempura coating on the fish but the batter/coating was too thick (so I took out the fish from the inside). You get a LOT of chips but no salad or peas...not an attactive looking meal.
When tea was served at the end of the meal, the teabag was floating in the teacup and no dish given into which to place it.
I could not recommend this eaterie unfortunately.

“Delicious tapas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Ate in this charming restaurant with a friend last night. It's in a great location on quay street with a cosy and atmosphere. Had 3 different tapas and all were delicious, particularly the potato cakes with bacon, I would return just for those! Staff were lovely and friendly and I look forward to going back to try the a la carte menu.
