“Good Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2012

My daughter and myself stayed at The Ferryman Hotel for one night in July and enjoyed our stay. Not too far from central Dublin and a lovely river view from our room. The Bord Gais Energy Theatre is right around the corner and the O2 is just across the river so would highly recommend for anyone visiting Dublin and attending events at either venue as we were.

The room was adequate for the price and we were on the top floor so noise was not an issue. Beds were comfy, breakfast was good, the staff friendly and the pub lively.

I would certainly consider staying at The Ferryman again if I return to Dublin in the future.

Room Tip: I emailed before visiting and asked for a high floor river view room - and got exactly that :)

We arrived early as 2 of a party of six from SE England. A traditional warm greeting and although early our rooms were all ready. The rooms are above the pub, which has a vibrant, sometimes noisy, through friendly clientelle. Rooms at the front of the property will suffer somewhat with customer noise and some noise from passing traffic, particularly with the windows open.

Although quite basic, the room was reasonably well appointed with adequate supplies of tea and coffee. If you are used to modern city centre hotels then these rooms may appear basic and in some cases, the paint was somewhat tired. Bed was comfortable although the TV in our room had a poor picture we spent little time in the room and so this did not detract.

Breakfast was included in our rate and this was prepared to order and was well cooked and nicely presented with offers of extra toast, tea and coffee. Quantity and quality of food was superb. Cereal and juice were on a buffet basis. Some food is served in the bar but it is wise to check as this is not always the case. There are many excellent restaurants less than 20 minutes walk away.

Overall the Ferryman represents very good value for money and provided one remembers what is being paid is only around 40% of a city centre hotel, then this hotel represents excellent value. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front (quay) side have a higher noise level due to pub customers and road traffic.

Stayed at this hotel for Two nights with Three other girls! We had three rooms booked. Our flight got us in Early - We turned up on the chance we could leave our bags there. Two of the three rooms where ready and checking in early was not a problem.

Rooms - All very nice and clean! Beds are amazing - Very comfortable!!! Bathrooms might need to updated but they do whats needed!! Showers get very hot!!
Ohhhh and Great views of the River!!!
Location - SPOT ON!!! Walking distance to the Bars / Shops! Croke Park again walking distance. We got the bus from the airport (6 Euro) and its the second stop! 25 mins max bus journey!
Breakfast - WOW - Sets you up for the day!!

All of the above at this hotel is enough to make it worth booking ... BUT the best bit is still to come!! The Staff!!
The Young girl behind the bar was very helpful on more than one occasion! The ladies where B'fast is served are all very delightful! They had us laughing throughout our stay!! and gave us some tips on places to go ect!! Cant beat local knowledge!!
The guy behind the bar smiles from start to end!!
Even the locals who drink in this pub welcome you!! All in all it has a great feel and for me the Ferryman is the only place to stay!!

Planning next trip already!! ;-)

Room Tip: river view!!

The room was very dirty and had cob webs on the walls. The bathroom was smelly and only one cake of soap. The room was very small and noisy from the bar downstairs. Staff not very friendly and breakfast was greasy. Not a very pleasant stay. Looks good from the outside but looks are deceiving.

This hotel is awful. My room faced the restaurant vents, which were located a few feet outside the window, and my room stunk of greasy smoke, which made my eyes burn and water, and I couldn't breathe without coughing. But worse, it was 75 degrees, and the room was so hot, but since there is no air conditioning or fan in the room, I had to open the window which only increased the amount of smoke and nauseating smell of burning grease. I asked the owner for another room, but she said the hotel was full and they had no other room. I told her I would have to leave because the condition of the room made it impossible for me to breathe in there. She charged me 50 Euros cancellation fee for the night even though I didn't stay there. I found another hotel at 3 times the price of the Ferryman, but it was worth it. My suitcase still smells like greasy smoke. Avoid this hotel!

This hotel, above a pub, was very nice. Functional room, good full Irish breakfast and beautiful views of the river Liffey. Friendly pub with friendly staff. Far enough away from the Temple Bar area so you could sleep, but close enough to all of Dublin's attractions.

This is my second time to the ferryman. The staff and owner Tommy are awesome. They took very good care of us even though we arrived early, they even remembered us from last year. The rooms were comfortable and very clean and the shower was great. We will stay here the next time we come back to Ireland.
