“Yes. There is something missing!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

Having just read the last review, I have to agree with him 100%, and I'll bet it's a "him". I too have been here several times, and always liked it, but I didn't enjoy it as much on my last trip. There were plenty of punters, and a very respectable bunch at that, but there was no craic going on. More like a library than a bar. Generally I like to sit near the big windows, and watch the people going by, but you have to remember, that they're watching you too. Don't go in here, if you're with someone you shouldn't be with :-}}}}}}

“Lacked atmosphere ”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

There is something missing that I couldn't put my finger on. I hadn't been here for many years and something had changed for the worst. The furniture was all different and there are huge windows that should have maybe blinds half way down or some dressing to take the fish bowl experience away.

“Ok for a quick drink”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Thomas Read has a prominent position at the junction of Dame Street and Parliament Street and as such is an easy place to arrange to meet people. However, the decor is not very attractive and the pub itself is rather dark and a bit impersonal. An ok place for a quick drink with friends prior to a meal but not a place for a long session. They don;t open until 5pm which can be a nuisance.

“Good for pints”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

Great place for a beer with friends as you can just people watch out the giant windows. Plenty of great restaurants nearby make this a great place to meet up before or after dinner.

“love it here...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2012

I usually end up at the quieter side "The Owl." It's smaller, and more intimate.
