“Good location, good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2009

Stayed here for one night back in January 2009, I think it is well located for the main shopping streets and drinking spots and is great value for money. My top tip is research the bus routes, the big tourist blue ones cost a lot more than the local ones and do teh same routes. Think we paid 2 euros instead of 6 going on the local bus on the way to the airport. We didnt think breakfast was worth paying for at 12 euros or something that they wanted. Also a half of guiness does not cost half the price of a pint... we found that out!

We went to Dublin for our one year anniversary, for two nights and we had a really good time. I chose this hotel based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and also the cost. The hotel is not huge but I liked the funky decor in both the reception, bar and room. We were only five minutes walk from the top of O'Connell Street which was fine for us but it is slightly up hill on the way to the hotel!
Only problem we had was reception gave another guest our room so someone walked in whilst we were in there. Then a couple of minutes later a member of staff did the same without knocking but she did apologise. After a word with reception when we were going out, we came back to find fruit and drinks in our room. I wouldn't let this put you off though as the staff were friendly and for the price (£50p/n), you can't really complain. Just lock you door!

Another tip, if you don't mind using buses and walking then I recomment the £25 ticket for three days travel which we bought at the airport. We only got a taxi once (first night out) otherwise we hopped on and off the buses and the tour buses. I think this saved us quite abit considering how expensive Dublin is.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and I think that the price is ok for what it offers. The room was clean but it wasn't too big (for 2/3 nights is ok!). The hotel is located not too far from the city center, but if you don't have a car it would take a 10/15 minute walk. If you have a car you'd better book the hotel parking which is not very big; when we arrived it was full, so we had to leave the car in a "pay & display" and it was expensive (€ 2.90/hour). Breakfast is not included in the price, but there aren't any coffe shops in the neraby, so we chose ti have it at the hotel and in was € 8/pps for a continental breakfast.

We were only here one night but should we return to Dublin, we'd stay here again. The rooms were clean and spacious. WiFi worked! Staff was friendly and the location made it easy to get back to the central area of the city. If you're looking to stay closer to the Temple Bar district, this probably isn't the hotel for you...unless you want a healthy walk after a night in the pubs. But it is within easy walking distance of Trinity, Grafton Street, the Dublin Writers Museum and lots of shopping.

We had a baggage problem leading up to our stay here and the hotel staff helped us to figure out some of our issues. Parking is an issue here since they have only a small on-site lot. We stayed one night and just parked in a garage for €10. The room itself was well appointed and had two twin beds that were situated next to each other. Good enough I guess.

The hotel is situated in an ok neighborhood a little north of the good stuff in Dublin. If you want a perfect vacation, try to stay south of the river. You'll save on some extra walking and be around more inviting restaurants and bars. The people hanging around here seemed more local and since there was a big soccer game the day we arrived, they were all liquored up pretty good. Actually saw a cabbie and a hooligan fistfighting across the street from the hotel. No tackling, just punching. Crazy.

We booked through Orbitz and paid $140 for the room. I would say it was a decent deal. There were plenty of stores and restaurants within walking distance down O'Connell street.

If you stay here, write this down: Maldron Hotel Parnell Square is located at the Northeast corner of the intersection of Upper Dorset St & Granby Row. It was not in our GPS and so we were driving in circles because apparently in Europe it is not common to post an actual mailing address online.
Also, this hotel had a phone and TV but no alarm clock.

The hotel is located on the north side of the river Liffey near the top of O’Connell Street. It is a nice three star property, the room was a good size, it was very clean and we had a large comfortable bed. Our room faced a main road so there was a little traffic noise but it did not disrupt our sleep. We found this property to be very good value for money and we would stay here again however if we could get a similar standard hotel for the same price south of the river we would take it as it would be closer to the main tourist sights.

I stayed for three nights Thursday- Sunday with a friend. We arrived late on the Thursday night, about half past 11, so were grateful that check-in was really quick and easy! The hotel was also only two minutes away from the bus stop on O'Connell street where the Airlink bus dropped us off.

The room wasn't huge, but was really nicely decorated, with very comfy twin beds, flat screen TV and a desk area. There was a neat little tea and coffee station as well, plus an ironing board. The bathroom was simple but functional, and had one of the best showers I've ever used- much better than my one at home! It was also spotlessly clean.

There's free internet but it isn't wireless, so only one of you can plug in at a time and you can only really use it sitting at the desk. There's wifi in the very nice reception area and coffee bar though. Staff weren't super friendly, but perfectly polite and efficient so no problems there.

Some locals we spoke to said the hotel was in a bit of a 'dodgy area' and told us to watch our handbags. I personally didn't notice anything that made me feel unsafe, and am always careful anyway. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from Temple Bar, and its a nice stroll down O'Connell street- maybe if you were travelling with older people or small children you'd look for somewhere more central, but for most people it's worth the walk for a quiet night's sleep!

The hotel is right around the corner from the Dublin writer's museum and the City Art Gallery. I'd really recommend the latter: it's free to get into and has some really interesting exhibits and a good regular collection.

This was a great value place to stay in an otherwise expensive city, working out less expensive than a private room in some of the hostels for the same weekend. I'd happily go back.
