“Possibly the worst place I have ever stayed!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We arrived late from our flight I booked 2 rooms. The night porter showed us where to go, it was an annexe which I was fine with as that's what I had booked. However it was a health and safety nightmare, half the lights didn't work walking up the stairs and there was lumps and bumps all the way up. I walked in and the room was the smallest room I think I've ever walked in to. This is ok, it was to sleep only so I could deal with that. However it was filthy! Everywhere!!!! The tv was about 30 years old and didn't work! Had to stand on a chair to turn it on. There was a huge stain looked like mould all down the wall! The kettle provided was just a wire hanging from the wall with the base of the kettle. Another one was provided but on a side unit with no sockets near. The other room that we booked was even worse, on the second night when we arrived back they had left the skylight open so the bed was soaked, in a way it was a blessing as the mattress that was in the bed was awful anyway. You get one thin pillow and one tiny towel not even a hand towel was provided. You have to hand your keys in every time you go out which I wasn't that comfortable with! The only thing it has going for it was the location on lower gardener street, it was only a couple of minutes walk to oconnell street! I would stay in that location again but not in that hotel! It really was filthy

Hi Jennie3333

Thank you for taking the time to offer an opinion piece on your stay at Hazelbrook Lodge. In previous responses to reviews, I have tried to explain the difference between Hazelbrook House and Hazelbrook Lodge and I thank you for your patience in that regard. We have two separate websites for both products and we are completely over hauling our products and services at this time, we hope that your next stay will be more satisfactory.

Due to customer demand for budget city centre accommodation, we provided Hazelbrook Lodge, these are small budget style rooms as stated on our website, his means that we can offer this accommodation at really competitive prices, as you say, somewhere to sleep for the night.

That said, there is no excuse for dust or stains as you say you witnessed, and our house-keeping staff will be ensuring that nothing like that is in place again.

Regards, Management and Staff, Hazelbrook House and HazelbrookLodge

I won't say I recommend this hotel to anyone...
It was VERY dirty, old, ugly and NOISY!!! The breakfast was very poor and expensive and so was the wifi... But the only positive I've got is that the location was very nice. So stay away if you can.

Hi Marthe H

Hazelbrook House is a Dublin City Centre Guesthouse and offers well-appointed rooms to the front of our Georgian designed building. Hazelbrook House is a traditional Irish Guesthouse in Gardiner Street Dublin. Gardiner Street Dublin is one of Dublin’s best known Georgian Streets; Gardiner Street Dublin is historically, culturally, politically and architecturally important due to its unique history.

Hazelbrook Lodge is a separate (sister) property offering Budget City Centre accommodation. Hazelbrook Lodge offers 9 small single rooms with shared bathrooms and showers, Hazelbrook Lodge also offers 10 Double-rooms which are en-suite, however, they are small Double-rooms offered at unbeatable city centre prices.

I think I need to make this distinction as there is clearly confusion between the two products, hopefully going forward the distinction will be understood, we take full responsibility for not clarifying this confusion earlier and we thank you for your patience to date.

Both Hazelbrook House and Hazelbrook Lodge have their own individual websites and their individual products and services are set out clearly, please check out the websites and BOOK DIRECT on our website for the product you want.

This is an economic place to stay but it is plenty of insects, spiders... in the room and underneath the bedsheets. Looking through the tiny window you can see people having heroine just a few metres from you in the street. Dirty showers and wc, no toilet paper most of times. They give you clean towels every day, that´s true. Very noisi place, people slamming doors at night time. Never coming back!!

We have used 3 rooms in this hotel - 2 rooms 3 weeks ago and one more last night. The rooms first stay were very dirty - lumps of dust around beds etc. The TV remotes did not work. We needed to stand on chairs to turn on TV's manually. One electric point made "crackling" noises and I was afraid to use it and lights didn't work. In the time between visits it has evidently changed hands and the room I was in this time was much cleaner so hopefully the change of hands will be an improvement! However, there was NO ventilation at all - no ability to to open a window making sleeping almost impossible and once again I had to stand on the chair to start the TV. Also, this second visit cost the same per room as the first visit but we discovered that the rules had been changed and the "Bed and Breakfast" did not provide us with breakfast this time. I could find no option for this online and just took it for granted that breakfast would be provided as before. I was charged 5 Euro more than the present 'changed' price online, so I'm wondering what the extra 5 Euro was for. First visit the staff were pleasant and helpful, but this time we met with surly, defensive staff. It was not a good way to end an otherwise lovely holiday in Ireland!

Booked a 2 night stay, cancelled several weeks in advance and still got charged. Shocking. If a booking is cancelled in advance with weeks to obtain a further booking why was money withdrawn from my bank without my permission?

This guest house is great value for money, clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. We stayed here for the weekend, in comfy beds and clean en suites. The rooms are spacious, wardrobe size is generous, and you get free wi fi, and items like a handy kettle for a cuppa, (although, no hair dryer- so make sure you bring your own!) You're so close to O'connell street, city centre, so it's a great location, there's a bus stop on the road (lower gardiner st) that goes straight to Dublin airport. And O'Shea's is up the road, a lovely pub with lovely food. I would certainly go back here again. A

Room Tip: Ask for the en suite rooms

We stayed at the Hazelbrook House in Dublin for our final two nights in Ireland. After traveling around in a rental car for two weeks, we returned our car to the Dublin airport and took a bus into Dublin from the airport. We were pleasantly surprised that a scheduled airport bus drop off and pick up was right across the street from the Hazelbrook. We arrived before check-in and the staff let us store our luggage in a locked room until our room was ready. Our room was quite small and we had to strategically place our suitcases. Everything was clean including the small bathroom. Breakfast was not included in the price we paid but a continental breakfast could be purchased. The young woman that sat at the front desk was wonderful. She was helpful, pleasant and made us feel very welcome. The Hazelbrook House is north of the River Liffey and a few blocks east of O’Connell Street, so it was a convenient location. It was a short walk to O’Connell Street where we caught the hop on hop off tour bus. We purchased a 2 day pass at the airport for the bus. The Hazelbrook House was not fancy and the room was small but we slept comfortably. If on a budget, it is a fine value when visiting Dublin.
