“Building Site - bring your ear plugs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2009

Arrived on a Thursday evening, hotel was clean. Room a decent size & location was very good for Dublin city centre.

Awoke the next morning at 7am to the sounds of building work. Was planning on a lie in but we had to get up and check out due to the noise. On check-out, the girl did not ask if we enjoyed our stay - she was too busy flirting with the stag party who were just checking in. Decent hotel and a good location but the building site right outside our hotel window spoiled our stay.

We stayed here two nights in February.. the location was great. But thats about it. It has the thinnest walls I have ever experienced between rooms. We could hear everything both nights. There was construction going on - we weren't told. They offered us breakfast, but then they charged us without letting us know. Extremely expensive for what we got. It is just 2.5 star, if that. Will never be using O'Callaghan hotels. The only plus as I mentioned is the location and the bar. Please consider carefully in spending £135 a night for a very poor poor hotel.

Travel regularly to Dublin on business, trying out less expensive options and this was a great find. Helpful staff, room well served with internet connection, UK/Euro sockets. Food very nice, good choice for room service, Location for restaurants excellent (2 minutes walk along a main road).

Good deals available thru hotels's own web site meaning hotel was half the price of other business-class hotels and just as good. Rooms are slightly larger than comparable hotels If you don't need the gimmicks of the boutique hotels, go here. Also great for leisure travel - close to Grafton Street etc.

Decor on the traditional side but clean and well maintained.

  • Liked — has all the facilities required, reasonably priced
  • Disliked — shower curtain a bit stale - but it was changed immediately on request

Just back from a weekend in Dublin and absolutely loved it. We chose to say at this hotel after reading the great reviews and we weren't disappointed. It cost about 35 Euro's to get there in a taxi from the airport but we did see buses that stop at the major hotels.

The hotel was in a perect location - right across from Stephen's Green and a 2 min walk from shops. The temple bar area was about 10min walk away. Upon arrival we were informed that our double rooms (we had booked 2 for the 4 of us) had been upgraded to suites on the top floor with balconies - brilliant! The decor was modern and the very clean. The staff were very polite and helpful - although we only met one Irish member of staf. The same goes for the shops and the Guinness Storehouse - very few Irish people working there too! lol.

We kept going back to O'Neils pub which was located on Suffolk Street, just off of Grafton Street (5 mins away) as we loved the atmosphere and cheap/good food. Stay clear of the Hairy Lemon as we were charged a ridiculous price for reheated food! In the Temple Bar area there's a lovely italian restaurant call La Caverna - we all had a different choice of meal/desert and we were very happy! The food was excellent!

Beware of the prices in Dublin, a pint of Guinness costs around 5 Euros no matter where you go, a vodka and mixer will set you back around 7 Euros! The drinks in the hotel however are a little less. Meals (day and night) are upwards of 12 Euros.

I staed in hotel on a week night early in November. i found the hotel to be very comfortable and extremely clean. I ate in the bar on arrival as we had travelled up from down the country. The waitress, a dark haired polish girl, was very pleasent and extremely attentive. We were greeted by the duty manager, Susan, who was very professional and always made time to say hello and enquire how everything was whenever we bumped into her. we had a few drinks in a nearby bar that evening, and upon our return enjoyed a lovely chat with the helpful and happy night porter.
It was very refreshing to experience such a well maintained hotel, and whilst it was quiet busy during our stay, the staff are all extremel professional and clearly very happy in their jobs.
Well done!

Location: If you're staying in Dublin, you could not get a more central location. Two minutes walk from the main shopping street of Grafton Street and very close to restaurants / bars etc.
Comfort: The standard of the room was high - four star hotel. Comfortable bed, good bathroom and TV and wifi. When I was here the wifi wasn't working that well but you can use internet through the wire in the bedrooms. The bathroom also has heated mirrors to stop them from misting up too much!
Cleanliness: Very high level of cleanliness. Room cleaned daily and they wait til you leave the room.
Food: The breakfast was expensive - not included because I booked through lastminute.com but it was good and there was lots of choice - it is included when booking directly through the hotel. Food in the bar was good andnot too dear and the Guinness was also pretty tasty.
Value for money: Dublin is not a cheap place to stay, but this is one of the cheaper central four star hotels. Sometimes you get good deals, especially during the winter.

I stayed in the Stephen's Green hotel a couple of years ago while doing exams. It was time to do more, and considering I passed the last time I stayed there I decided to try again!

I e-mailed a few weeks prior to ask a few questions and got a rapid and friendly response. I found a good rate on bookassist.com-suite for same price as double room (room only). I reckoned I wouldn't be that hungry on the mornings of my exams so "room only" suited me fine for the 2 nights!

Check-in was easy and very quick with very pleasant reception staff. I was in room 1320 which was huge, immaculately clean and extremely quiet. Flat screen TVs in both the living room and the bedroom with a huge bed, couch and a number of armchairs. Bed had blankets unfortunately ( I prefer a duvet) but I was warm and cosy anyway. The mini fridge was very handy and there was plenty of tea and coffee. Bathroom was pretty plain but loved having separate shower and bath and the water power was fantastic. Other cute little extras were toothbrush and shaving kit...not a standard by any means but set the hotel above the usual chain. Had lots of towels and it was entirely spotless. Would echo one of the previous reviewers who recommended bringing your own hairdryer. I did having had previous experience of those awful bathroom wall ones. Why do hotels insist on intalling them?!?

I didn't get a chance to check out the fitness room, and didn't have the breakfast this time....although it was lovely on a previous stay. I will definitely be returning to the Stephen's Green Hotel. Especially if I can get a good rate again! Also, I passed my exam....so I think it may be my lucky charm :-)

  • Liked — Location, comfort, quiet, impeccable cleanliness, staff...
  • Disliked — Having to pay for internet access-I always feel ripped off when hotels impose a charge. Blankets on bed, hairdryer in bathroom.
