3 years and now 7 visits. I stay in 12 hotels a year and this is my favourite. We have stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels that are not as good as this one. You are made to feel special and the hotel staff stay the same, which in my book is a good sign. I can't comment on the location to access Dublin city however compared to another local hotel, the 4 star Bewleys up the road this one is much better, the Bewleys room I stayed in was at best a 2 or 3 star standard in comparison. The food however at Bewleys is better but if I had a choice I would stay at the Grand Canal and walk to a local restaurants although for most (non-veggies) their Gasworks, which is attached is fine and they serve a good Guiness :-) Tip: If you can afford it ask to stay in room 509.

We stay here so often because we hire their conference facilities which are on the lower ground floor however still with some natural light. The staff again are excellent, very helpful and flexible (ask for Niamh, she is fantastic and will look after your pre-arrival needs). We have another conference booked and are probably going to stay here for an event at the local RDS even though it is not the closest hotel available in our price range.

My room was clean, a great size, comfy and I felt very safe! They have a lift...yea!!! Overall, the hotel staff was very pleasant. They have a computer in the lobby you can use. The only fault I have with that is, it cost 1euro for 8 mins....WAY to pricey!!!! You can get 20 mins in the UK for 1 pound. It is a bit of a walk to the center part, but once you get use to it, it's not so bad. As far as safety, they have a deadbolt lock, and you must use the key card in the elevator to get to your floor. I like that! One day, I decided to stay in and rest (jet lag) and they called to see if I needed room service. I thought that was nice since I had a "do not disturb" on the door. They have iron and ironing board and hair dryer in room. My room had a smaill table and 2 chairs.
The pub off the lobby is very good, good food and service was very nice as well as the ppl there.
Ireland is very expensive, but the ppl are so nice and helpful and the sites are just fabulous!! I recommend a day trip if you can....best thing I did!

We chose this hotel following having read fantastic reviews on this site. We were right to follow them as this hotel was great! We found a good deal for room rates and were not disappointed upon arrival. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great as it is a short walk to the city centre (15 minutes walk) and is easily accesible by public transport. The food prices at the Gasworks Bar (in house restaurant) were reasonable (compared to other local places) and the service was good. The Bar seemed to attract members of the local public too as it was always lively, yet , not too rowdy. The rooms were clean and well equipped and there is a safe which is free to use and handy for storing passports etc. We were however slightly disappointed with the size of the bed which was a double bed, yet smaller than ones we have used in other hotels. This was not a huge issue however.

I love this hotel. Rooms are clean, spacious and the beds very comfortable. The location was perfect for us, a 15 minute walk to Temple Bar and 15 the other way to the Leinster game we had tickets for. Had a smashing burger in The Gasworks bar too.

We stayed 2 nights at the Grand Canal Hotel on the "2 day getaway" offer on the hotel's website (€185 for 2 people (although this has now increased to €220)). The offer included bed, breakfast and an evening meal on one of the nights, which was excellent value for money.

The hotel is an easy 15 minute walk from Trinity College and the city centre, so it's close to everything but you're not paying the premium for staying right in the city.

Our room was on the 4th floor which had a sign saying "Executive Floor", but apart from bath robes in our room I don't think there was anything else that would be classed as additional to what you would get in a standard room. The bathroom was clean, modern and had a good power shower. The ipod dock and the chocolates on our pillows on arrival were a nice touch. As someone else has said, there is no aircon (there is central heating instead), which wasn't a problem for us in April, but could be in the summer.

The breakfast selection was good - not the best I've experienced, but a long way from the worst. On a weekend, breakfast runs until 11am, so you get to have a long lie in if you want. Hot breakfasts are cooked to order, so everything is nice and fresh and hasn't sat around on a hot plate for hours.

All the staff we had contact with were very friendly and provided an excellent service, particularly when there were problems on the first night (a Friday) when we wanted to take advantage of the inclusive dinner, having already made arrangements for dinner our second night. The inclusive dinner is taken in the Gasworks Bar, adjacent to the hotel, the problem was, on a Friday there are very noisy party nights in there so a nice dinner for 2 just wasn't an option - it was so loud, we struggled to have a conversation with the staff on reception, let alone in the bar itself! We suggested to the staff that we take the meal in our room - they had no problem with that (at no extra charge) and we even got a phonecall to check that everything was ok with the meal after it had been delivered. The food was excellent and the portions were large - far better than expected.

The bar was a bit quieter the following night as we walked past on our way out, but again would have been too noisy for a meal for 2. Had we been there an a large group, the bar would have been a great place to start the night on either evening as it was so lively, but it just wasn't right for a quiet meal for 2. Don't let a noisy bar put you off this hotel though as we couldn't hear it at all from our room and had 2 very peaceful nights sleep.

We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we went back to Dublin - highly recommended.
