Despite some bad reviews here I selected La Stampa since it newly joined SLH group. I expected those problems had been fixed. I did regret my decision; I should have trusted the judgment of the fellow travelers.

Room is tiny with old furniture, not an antique, just worn our old one. Leftover food from the previous guest in the fridge. Not well functioning toilet flush. But the worst is staff. Hotel front personnel knew nothing about restaurants around. One could only recommend their own (good one) and the cafe next door, another person needed Google to find one on the next street. Breakfast room was unmanned. You had to go out to the hallway and yell out for service. Someone ran in, prepared toast and coffee, and left again. No one to ask for another cup of coffee. Oh, the coffee was brewed fresh cup by cup! What a luxury!!

If this hotel were rated one star, no one would complain. But 4 star, SLH member, and the price? I will never come back.

My sister stayed in La Stampa early June 2006 for 2 nights. We had both stayed there previously in 2004 and found the hotel to be of a high standard. We knew hotel rates were high in Dublin as there were several concerts at that time but we certainly did not get value for money during our stay.
The room we were allocated did not have hot water, the air con did not work and in general it was very shabby. It really did not look clean. We discovered that some of the bottles of spirits in the mini bar had been opened and re-filled - We were far from impressed. We reported the faults to the reception who said there were no more rooms available that night. We were told that both the aircon and the hot water would be fixed. On our return to the room that evening neither were working. As the weather was very hot we had to open the window and then had noise until 4.30am. We were advised that we could change rooms the following morning. On first inspection the room appeared better but again had the same problems - Faulty aircon, slightly warm water and a general lack of cleanliness. We were very disapointed as we had paid 250 euros per night. The reception said they would discuss a discount with the Manager ( Who never appeared during our stay !) On checking out we were offered 10% for the first night only. I questioned this and was immediately offered 10% on the second night also. I see this as an insult when the standard of the room was so low. I will not even go into detail about breakfast - The service and the quality of food was appalling. I have since sent an email to the hotel and Manager but after 2 weeks have had no reply. I think this is a clear indication how the standards of this hotel have slipped. I would never recommend this hotel now (Having done so many times in the past) It does not deserve a 4 star rating.
As I had stayed the hotel before I did not use Trip Advisor. However, having looked at the reviews on my return I see the problems we encountered have all been reported before.

On a positive note we used the Spa at the hotel which is relatively new. Fantastic treatments and the staff are excellent.

I have to say, I was really shocked by this hotel, let me fill you in!
My girlfriend and I decided to have a little pre Christmas treat and booked into La Stampa on a Friday night in December. The room was very expensive but probably in line with other 4 star hotels in the city so we did not think much about it. We arrived about 9pm and were brought from reception through the packed pub downstairs dragging our bags! We were then shown our room which looked out over an airconditioning unit on the roof. The bed was a small double (not what you expect in a 4 star). The duvet did not go over the side of the bed but only to the edge (not good!). The cold water tap in the sink did not work and the tiles on the ground were peeling away. The remote control for the tv did not have any batteries in it and there was no in-house movie service (really not impressed at this point!). We decided to call reception and ask to be moved to a room which justified the price, and the night manager arrived at our door. To be fair, he was a very polite and professional man and should be commended for it. He brought us to a suite at the front of the building but the windows are not double glazed and the noise from the street was very bad, so he then brought us to another suite at the back. Room was beautiful and after some persuasion he agreed to give it to us at the same rate as the smaller room. 10pm now and we were feeling more optimistic so my girlfriend ordered room service for herself (I did not want any), but they delivered food for two and tried to charge us for it anyway! Then went to turn on the tv....no remote control and no access to the buttons on the top of the tv! Then went to call reception....no phone in the room!!! So we called from our cellphone and they brought a phone and remote. 11.30pm now and set for bed, off to sleep, but only until midnight! This is because the karaoke party begins in the room below at the time!!
I can guarantee you, I will never ever ever stay in that hotel and will recommend to all my friends that they do not either. Shocking!

I checked into La Stampa on Friday night for two nights having been let down by another location on St Stephen's Green (a private club). I negotiated a rate of €150 per night, including continental breakfast and, for that price, I would rate the hotel good value.

The staff were very friendly, even remembering my name (maybe because there did not seem to be many other guests). Although there is a large bar downstairs and you do still have to walk through it to reach the elevator, my room was on the third floor and quiet - this was helped by it being at the back of the hotel.

The room was furnished in what they called "Moroccan style". The furniture was heavy wooden stuff, with a lot of very shallow drawers - a small point, but it was just difficult to get my clothes in them. The bed was very comfortable, with plenty of pillows.

The bathroom was stone floor tiles and gold fittings. Closer inspection in the bathroom revealed a couple of loose floor tiles, a bit of mouldy grout (not noticeable at first) and loose soap dishes. The shower managed to get reasonably warm, but never really hot! On the plus side, they provided nice, thick bathrobes and good soap products.

The restaurant downstairs is apparently one of Jean-Christophe Novelli's - I did not eat there, but the prices looked reasonable for Dublin.

Breakfast is no longer served near the bar area, but in a separate room on a different floor. The continental was fine - again, I seemed to be the only one there (maybe I get up too early?), so there was plenty of choice. Good fresh orange juice on Saturday morning, but made-up stuff on Sunday, containing chips of ice! On the plus side, I had some very good coffee. Complimentary newspapers would have been nice.

All in all, a pleasant enough stay, but I may not have been so happy if I had paid the full rate.

Stayed at La Stampa last weekend. Its in a great location and looks fabulous when you first arrive but the set up of the whole reception is just really strange. You are taken to the bar area when you arrive and check - in. Ok its just a little different than the norm, but you have to walk through a very noisy crowded long bar to get to the elevators to get to your rooms. Its better if you arrive during the day before 5. Our room still wasnt ready when we checked in at midday so we had a long wait!! Rooms do differ but ours was at the back which was nice and quiet but small. Lovely large bathrooms though and comfy beds but that was about it. Nothing really that special. Almost as though they had just chucked in some indonesian furniture. Great bar open til 4am at least!
