“Great value for Business Grade Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

This hotel was really great for a business grade stay. It wasn't too much money while offering a clean, quiet, and close enough proximity to bus line to tourist attractions. It also has a restaurant so you can get a quick start to the day.

It is too far for walking back from the tourist areas. That is the only detractor.

I stayed at the Ballsbridge Hotel while attending a conference at University College Dublin in July 2013. There was an unusual heat wave on, with temperatures at 23-28 and humidity very high. At first I was in the newer towers section with air con, but then moved to the older section, with no air con. It was unbearably hot and unfortunately there were no light blankets or covers. I was able to obtain a table top fan for a deposit of 20 euros, which helped. However, aside from this, the hotel was a good value. It has a good Irish breakfast which you can purchase with your room or the night before for 9.95 euro. there is a nice pub, though food ends at 10 pm. Be prepared to pay for everything extra. Wireless is 3 euro/half hour, or 21 euro/5 days (5 consecutive 24 hours). Weighing your luggage is 1 euro a 60 second shot. etc. The rooms, while comfortable, sometimes are short on hangers, don't have irons, only have 2 glasses and 2 cups, don't have a safe, etc. The staff are always prompt and helpful - dining room, front desk and housekeeping. the hotel itself is conveniently located on several bus routes. There is a taxi stand around the corner. There is a small conference facility and parties coming and going constantly (Miss Ireland, Weight Watchers and Yahoo were booked in while we were there). There is a spa facility which you can prebook for treatments. Be warned that the air port shuttle has stopped servicing this route, though it is available a short 20 min walk away. There is a shopping area with several good restaurants (range of prices, fancy to pub to ethnic to convenience) and convenience stores, including a Boots pharmacy, about 2 blocks up the road. I would recommend the Ballsbridge for value, location, and service.

Room Tip: Try to book into the tower, as the rooms have more conveniences. book through the hotel's own we...

I spent 12 days on tour exploring Ireland July 18 through July 28th and stayed in several hotels. All other hotel and several restaurants offer Free WIFI - not here. They charged me 2 times for WIFI. My credit card was charged July 28 $13.76 USD = (E 18.2783) and July 29, $10.32 USD = ($13.7088) Both exhorbitant fees for WIFI anywhere! We arrived about 5:30pm July 28, had to meet tour for dinner at 6:15pm so didn't get a good chance to check out the room as we only had enough time to prepare for dinner and leave. The room was very shabby and we have the same complaints others have posted - no A/C, windows can't be opened enough, beds move, etc. After returning from dinner around 9:00 pm, we discovered the toilet didn't work. We had to pack up and move to another room. After a long day this was exhausting. However, the staff was pleasant in assisting us. But, it resulted in paying yet another tip. The new room wasn't in much better condition. Obviously, we were not in renovated sections others mention here. Also, when we arrived, getting to our room was a nightmare. The clerk could have given us a brief clarification of how to get to the room. Several of us ending up going in the wrong direction, taking the wrong elevators up, not locating our rooms and then having to return to the front and start again. I'd never stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the renovated section and if you go with a tour be sure to mention this to your to...

We stayed at the Ballsbridge hotel 26th July 2013 for 3 nights in a family room. The price of the room was great value , very reasonable and the service we received from the Reception staff , in particular ,was excellent.
The breakfast was also very good , remember to ask for your choice of eggs at breakfast rather than just having the preserved scrambled eggs ( which are average) .
All in all ,the hotel was well staffed , had lots of coach parties coming and going but these seemed to be dealt with well without any long queues at checkin . The room was hot but the recent temperatures have been very unusual. The rooms were no hotter than my own bedroom at home ( non air-conditioned house in England !)

Well Done All Staff.

Room Tip: Rooms in the Towers have air con . The family rooms( not available in the Towers) though currently...

We stayed in the tower part of the hotel, which looks like it was a separate hotel in the past. It took about 5 minutes of walking through the hotel to get to the room. It was quite large with a queen and a single bed, which were quite comfortable and gave you a variety of pillows. The air conditioning/fan did not work and it was hot when we were there and the window only opened one inch so it was useless. The beds were on wheels and not attached to the headboards so every time you sat on the bed, or got in or out the bed slid across the carpet. The bathroom was only moderately clean. Excellent location though- we could walk downtown in about 20 minutes. Breakfast is not included, although there is a restaurant and a pub on site where you can purchase food and there was a charge for WI Fi, although it was super fast. The two days we were there, it was very quiet. There was no clock in the room at all, and the clocks behind the registration counter were set for foreign countries so we never knew what time it was! The few times we asked questions of the staff behind the counter the answers were rude - every other hotel in the three week European vacation, the staff were great so it was really noticeable here that they were abrupt. The final straw was when we were checking out, we had booked through an online source that pays with your credit card. Again, every other hotel had no issue with this. Ballsbridge staff tried to charge us again, demanded a credit card payment and did not believe us when we said it was already paid for, even when we pulled up the receipt on our laptop. I am sure other people use resources like priceline and staff should be trained to deal appropriately with customers.

Dear Guest

Thanks for your review. I'm disappointed that you found our staff anything but affable and helpful during your stay. I will bring this to the reception manager's attention at once. We value hospitality and service at the hotel. I'm glad you enjoyed our location.

Kind regards

Once owned by Jurys Inn. We were so lucky that our tour guide was able to get us rooms in the renovated section. I believe they called it "the Towers". Bathroom was absolutely lovely meaning, large, clean and plenty of space for personal items. Most importantly, the a/c WORKED. After spending 18 days on the road in the heat...it seems the only place you can get a/c is in five star or newly renovated hotels like this one. Again though...No Safe. I just don't understand it. The problem is location. You are a 25 minute walk to the city or need to take a local bus. Bus is 2.50 euros one way per person. Pretty expensive.. There are some good places to eat within walking distance, but was told to stay away from Crowe's Pub...bad quality.

Room Tip: Get a room in the renovated section

stayed twice during our recent stay in Dublin. Price was good, as was they stay overall . We were in the towers building in a renovated room. The elevator was out during our stay so it was a little inconvenient. Less than $10 euro to get to Temple Bar area. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Towers building
