The outside of this pub has not changed over the years, but once through the door, it's a different bar altogether. When it was a "Mooney" bar, it was a kip, full of narky old fellas, and not the sort of place you'd frequent. But now it's all done up, and quiet trendy, with a bit of a restaurant added on.
A friend of mine noticed the sign that said roof garden, and said we should go it for a gawk, as we thought we'd get good views of the city from there. So, I met him in the bar, where we got a couple of drinks, before we got the lift to the roof. However, the service was very slow in the ground floor bar, with the staff concentrating on tables, and ignoring us sitting at the bar. I had to ask the barman a couple of times for our drinks, and received no apology for the delay, but they staff were all very nice and friendly.
So, up to the roof we go, with the camera ready to take snaps of the city from above, or so I thought. However, the rooftop is totally covered in, and you'd never know you were on the roof, except for the cold air coming in. And one of the staff informed us, that even if we could see out, we'd be looking at the backs of buildings, and not of the streets below. We felt a bit cheated, but we had a great day, and said that we'd definitely return, actually look forward to another visit. The new owners did a great job, well done.
