“Comfortable & spacious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Wonderful location in a rural setting which is gated. Car is a must. Quiet with lots of privacy. Home is well equipped with clean, modern furniture & appliances. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom which makes for a comfortable stay when you have a group of varying ages. The kitchen is spacious and has every imaginable appliance or utensil. A washing machine that washes & dries was used frequently. A charcoal barbecue is available. A sunroom adds an additional space to hang out in or a lovely place to eat & view Dublin skyline. If the weather co operates an outdoor deck is available for sitting or eating. Close by is the Ticknock Forest Reserve which has excellent walking trails and views of the city and ocean.
Overall, I highly recommend this location for any Dublin visit.

“Peaceful, lovely home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We have a wonderful time at Willowell. It was a beautiful, quiet country location, yet easy and quick to travel into Dublin, so the best of both worlds. The house is very well maintained, and the owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and homey.

“Absolutely Positively Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012 for a stay in November 2012

person found this review helpful

I recently stayed at Willowell in November with two young men in their 20s (my son and his friend) and my teenage daughter. It was everything that we had hoped for and more. It is in the perfect location with an absolutely breath taking view. The house was very spacious and had everything we needed and more. The bathrooms in each room were all well appointed with no shortage of hot water. The electric blankets and little heaters in many of the rooms only added to the cozy feeling of the house which was well heated already. The outside deck was perfect for the boys and visitors that needed a smoke. We had family over to eat on two occasions and they absolutely loved the house and the location. Everyone was amazed that we had found it right under their nose and that it was at such a reasonable price for such a great place! They even stated that they would recomend it to other family coming to visit Ireland.

Tips -- must have a car.
The neighboring horses and sheep sometimes are allowed into the yard for grazing.

The big horse appears gruff but if you give him an apple, he'll love you forever and follow you around!

Read the instructions on the washer/dryer (one machine) - I shrunk a few of my son's pants by experimenting with the dryer. The instructions are in the dryer.

The pizza delivery place (brochures in the cabinet) is great and will deliver fish n'chips, desserts, drinks, etc at a very reasonable price and very quickly.

Go shopping at the Dundrum Shopping center. You can catch the Luas right there too. Just park and walk down the road - stairs to the Luas across the street on the right. You can take this straight into Dublin - last stop St. Stephen's Green.

There is a riding stables just up the road from the house. Turn right out of the driveway and then take the first right - you'll see signs to the stable - it's a great place with nice people and great horses. There is a brochure in the cabinet.

There is a golf/putting range just down the road as well. There are a couple of private ones and then the Sandyford Golf club which is open to everyone. Very nice.

Take the trail up Ticknock mountain. It's gorgeous!

“The perfect holiday home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

This holiday home was perfect for the three nights we stayed. It was ideally situated for visiting Dublin and the Wicklow area to the south. The very friendly landlord had thought of and provided everything - nothing was missing. The night-time views over Dublin were superb and the deer roaming wild in the garden were an added pleasure. There were supermarkets and an excellent fish and chip shop within a five minute drive and, for shopaholics, the Dundrum Shopping Centre is only ten minutes away as is Johnny Foxes, surely one of the best dining pubs in Ireland. We can thoroughly recommend Willowfield.

“Out of town hillside delight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

The house was a perfect size for myself and family along with the parents. (6)
The location was close to where we needed to be but would suit those looking for a rural but close to Dublin experience. Beds comfortable and sunroom a lovely way to wind down the day with views of Dublin. At night the whole vista of dublin city lights up. Suitable for family types and country lovers.

“Best of both worlds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012 for a stay in July 2012

Willowell catered for all our needs. We were a family of four with a teenage daughter and son who have travelled all over Ireland and to find a house with three double en-suite bedrooms is unusual and most welcome with no fighting over who gets the big room. The house was well stocked with all you would need to start your holiday from tea, coffee, milk and bread to all the cleaning products that we sometimes find lacking elsewhere. When we arrived the satellite TV wasn't working and while my son was sorting this out Brian went and borrowed a TV to make sure we weren't without.Normal service was resumed with plenty channels to chose from and a supply of DVDs if you fancy a night in.The house lies next to the motorway and allows easy access to the rest of the country but was surrounded by fields abundant with local wildlife and was very quiet and peaceful. There are wonderful views from the conservatory and decking and even better if you head up the hill from the house to the forest park which is ideal for walking and cycling.Lamb Doyle's pub is within walking distance but be careful as there is no pavement fro part of the way.Well worth ther trip for a really warm welcome from Ken the barman.Supermarkets are a ten minute drive as is Ballinteer House pub for a good meal.Irleand's biggest indoor shopping centre is ten minutes away at Dundrum where there are plenty of shops and a cinema.Dublin city centre is easily reached by the local tram service(The LUAS) which you can catch at the park and ride at Balally next to Dundrum centre(follow the blue park and ride signs). Willowell offers and excellent rural setting with easy access to Dublin and beyond and would recommend to families or groups of friends for a great break in Ireland.

“Doesn't get much better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Very close to 2 good grocery stores and a great pub (Lamb Doyle’s). The cottage is within walking distance of a state park just at the top of the hill. Though the cottage is not new, recent renovations give it a “new” feeling. Views of Dublin from the solarium are special. The adjoining pastures with sheep, rabbits, a horse, and wild deer make it feel like a mini-farm, but you’re near good shopping and public transportation. All you need is in the kitchen, including coffee, sugar, napkins, soap, and even starter snacks to tide you over till you get to a store. Just drive straight there, unpack, and prepare for a most pleasant time. The property is protected by an electronically operated gate, so anyone not accustomed to slightly private surroundings, should feel quite safe. We have stayed in several cottages in Ireland and Scotland and have never been disappointed, including Willowell.
Dublin is easily accessible, by taking a €4.50 train (Luas) which you can pick up at the Dundrum Center Mall, Irelands largest, which is 10-15 minutes from the cottage. The charming seaside village of Bray is less than 30 minutes by car, which is mandatory (a car) when staying at Willowell. The adjacent motorway permits an easy day trip to Waterford, but the nearby mountains of Wicklow take 45 minutes or so on traditionally small Irish roads. We even did an overnight trip to Galway, about 2 hours away by another motorway.
The “value for the money” can’t be beat. Our price (spring rates) amounted to about €10 per person per day for our party of 6! The owner, Brian Croly, croly@vodafone.ie is helpful and nice to visit with; his grandparents’ farm has been in the family for years. He offered a lot of help trying to get our Wi-Fi issues worked out, and poor service on the Wi-Fi is the only negative issue we encountered. Feel free to contact me at davejoyce2@ctc.net for further information. Except for the exhausting plane trip from North Carolina, we would spend considerable time at Brian’s cottage.
