“Meet the mummified dead”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

Quite a macabre experience to be in the crypt of a church. Access is a bit tricky as there is only stone steps to get down to crypt level. Once there you are greeted by the sight of coffins stacked on top of one another and of course the bodies that can been seen out of a few broken coffins.

The bodies have been well preserved by the environment in the crypt and you are even allowed to touch one.

I never considered myself to be superstitious but I was reluctant to 'shake hands with the crusader' (actually you just rub one of his fingers for luck) but I am glad I did it.

Photos are not permitted in the crypt but I see some people on the web have already broken that taboo.

“interesting and great guide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

The crypts at St. Michans are definately the highlight. Seeing the coffins of the Shears brothers was interesting as quite a bit of background information was given. The graveyard itself is also interesting to take a walk aorund. The church itself is not particularly impressive but the info leaflets available in various languages are really good. The guide Peter was also excellent.

“A must see in Dublin:)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Just a short walk from our hotel in Temple Bar, St Michans Church was perhaps one of my favorite tours. The Church itself is glorious but its what lies beneath that is amazing....Our Guide was incredible with his theatrics and personality...quite the gem:) You must take the walk to see this historic burial ground and see for yourself!!

“Only visit if you are dying to see a mummy.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

I went to see the mummies which while interesting I would say was not really worth the trip or €5 entracnce fee! The church itself is a plain Victorian building which I find really depressing. The crypts were cool but if you are into the macarbre then Glasnevin is so much more interesing and full of history. I think the guide was trying to be too funny/weird and it just verged on the uncomfortable for me. Would not return.

“THE CRYPTS ARE A THOUSAND YEARS OLD!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Very interesting church and crypts. The guide explains the history of the mummified bodies. This is a MUST SEE for visitors to Dublin. It is at the back of the Four Courts.
