“Dublin visit - stayed in Charleville Lodge Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

I visit together with a friend Dublin for a longer weekend and stayed three nights in Charleville Lodge. We enjoyed the hotel - the location was nearby the centre, with very good bus connection into the city. We have had a double room with two single beds - we sleeped very well, we also enjoyed the breakfirst. The hotel staff were very friendly and I can recommentd the hotel for a visit in Dublin.

Room Tip: Our room was in the souterrain - really quit - you have to go upstairs - but anyway - you have to g...

Was quite shocked when we saw the place it was so run down. We had to struggle with 4 large suitcases up 5 flights of stairs with no assistance offered. Was charged to use their car park which I thought was rude. Rooms very stuffy and heaters were turned on through out the building. To us it was very poor value for money, even the Taxi driver laughed when he found out where we were.

Not at all a place to recommend, absolutely run down, the bedrooms with switches hanging out of the wall, carpet and walls in a poor state. The bathrooms are not better. Breakfast is quite complicated with a system of three different breakfasts to choose, continental, small and full Irish, prices between five and nine euros. Staff is friendly, but that cannot make up for the rest

Warning: do not stay here. Not a safe neighborhood. Rooms need complete remodeling. I can't believe fodor's recommended this. Bathroom small and ill equipped. Strange smells throughout building. Weedy yard. You have to tote luggage from back of building to front. Concierge recommended a " restaurant" that was a dive bar. Do not listen to their recommendations.

We stayed for one night before an early morning flight from dublin airport so didnt spend very much time in the room. It is on a bus route which made it a good enough location to and from the centre, room was nice beds comfy and staff were helpful.

We stayed here about 3 years ago. It was our last night in Ireland and after a beautiful trip staying in some of the nicest B&B's,lodges and two castles, we could not believe how horrible the service was. First, parking was in the back, with a back door to enter the hotel. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to use it so we had to walk around to the front and then carry our suitcases up a ton of stairs. When we got to the room it was ok but there were signs everywhere saying that everything cost extra. They even had a sign saying if we washcloths we had to call the desk and that their towels were electronically tagged. The included breakfast in the morning was cold eggs and burnt sausages. But the worst was the next morning when it was pouring down rain and once again we were not allowed to use the back door ( where our car was parked about 5 feet from the door on the ground floor. Instead they sat at the desk and watched us carry four suitcases up two flights of stairs and the outside down all of the stairs and around the block in the pouring rain. It was a long flight home when you are wet and cold.

Room Tip: Avoid at all cost!
