“Nice hotel in city centre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

My husband and I spent the night in Dublin before catching a plane the next day. Good location (in Temple Bar). Quiet area. Breakfast ok.
One negative point (for me) was the presence of TVs in the lobby and in the bar, distracting and a little tacky (Sky News on mute) for a hotel playing on its historical value. I like my hotels to be somewhere to escape for a while, not having news shoved in my face.

Dear Anne,

Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and that the location suited your needs. My apologies for the TV's, we do like to keep them on the news channel muted with back round music as a lot of guests like to see what is going on, but I can understand that when some people are holidays, they like to be on holidays from everything, including the news. I hope that this does not stop you from considering staying with us the next time you are visiting Dublin.

Great location with very friendly staff. I booked a very good value and well priced single room and was issued with a King Room.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2012

We stayed here for one night over the weekend.
Although we live close to Dublin we were panning a big pre-Christmas night out with friends and thought that it would be easier to stay in a hotel for the night rather than spend time looking for a taxi and paying almost the same money to get home.
Hotel is quite centrally located at the far end of the Temple Bar area. Close enough to walk to all the pubs etc but far enough away so as not to be kept up all night by noisy revellers.
Check-in was smooth and friendly and when we returned later that night we were helpfully directed to a vending machine for a post-midnight snack!
Room was clean and spacious and quite comfortable. Bathroom was also clean but pressure was not great in the shower.
The only word of warning is that the hotel is very close to Christchurch Cathedral. Great for culture, not so great for the involuntary wake-up call on a Sunday morning with the bells ringing (no snooze button on those bells either). A small price to pay for a good location however and maybe you won’t be as hungover as I was.
Would recommend this hotel and would stay again if in Dublin city centre.

Hi Michelle and Rory,

Thank you for your kind review and it is great to see that you enjoyed your night with us. As you say, sometimes it is easier staying overnight that trying to find a taxi home especially during the Christmas season! We do have Christ Church Cathedral just on our door step so the sound of church bells are a common factor, but there is little or no street noise during the night as we are just far enough away from the madness of Dublin City yet close enough to walk to all the attractions.

Hopefully we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back again the next time you are in the City.

A very pleasant and quite location. (Our room was on the front). Its only a comfortable and enjoyable short walk to Temple Bar, the banks of the Liffey and Grafton Street. The staff were some of the most courteous, friendly and helpful people I've ever come across in the many hotels I stop in each year. I will definitely use the hotel again.

I was a little disappointed with the hotel, but it was cheap and in a great location. Its really just a room nothing more and we ended up spending most of our time shopping in Dublin.
Our bed was very comfortable.

The staff quickly dealt with loud guest, which was really appreciated.

Dear Sotogrande,

Thank you for your comments. I am disappointed to see that you were not totally happy with the hotel. We have started renovating the bedrooms this week and will be installing in-room safes, mini bars and ironing facilities as well as re-decorating. If you are visiting Dublin again in the future, we would be delighted to welcome you back to the George Frederic Handel Hotel.
