“Relaxing break at the Schoolhouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2007

We had a three night break for our 10th wedding anniversary and were not disappointed with the Schoolhouse.

On arrival reception were expecting us and the check in process was extremely slick.

The hotel has only 31 rooms so retains an intimate feeling at all times, but particularly at breakfast.

Our room was a good size, with a overly large bed and everything you would expect for a hotel of this rating. The bathroom at first appeared a little dated in some respects e.g. shower fittings, but this is intentional and it all functions perfectly.

Housekeeping visited once a day and the room was kept immaculately, with in room refreshments (tea, coffee, water, ice and biscuits) replaced daily.

Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of choices that would suit all tastes, and with very flexible hours. We ate in the restaurant once and the food was good, though the prices were those you'd expect to pay for something a little more special.

The bar was very popular with locals and residents alike with a friendly atmosphere and bar food available.

Location wise this hotel is fairly good with a 10-15 minute stroll into the city centre, and having the river Liffy nearby as well.

Although by no means the cheapest option we felt the hotel was worth the extra, and would recommend taking a few moments to read the history of the building itself.

I stayed here when I returned to Dublin for my graduation and had a lovely time. The schoolhouse has a lot of character, is beautifully decorated, and in a great location. It's not in the middle of town but the great neighborhood makes up for that. Definitely worth staying here when you're in Dublin.

The Schoolhouse hotel was everything we were looking for, and in taking advantage of the Sunday reduced rate we got value for money and a lovely easy start to the week over a great Monday morning breakfast. Gorgeous bathrooms, lovely spacious rooms with all you might need, a relaxed bar next door allowing us to unwind (food was great although the drinks were a little more expensive than elsewhere).

All in - I'd recommend to anyone, especially if you are looking for a Sunday night stay.

We recently stayed there for 2 nights. We arrived at 1 AM and were relieved to find that our adjoining rooms were still available. Room service was good, the people were friendly, and the rooms were clean.

We stayed at the Schoolhouse on the first night of our honeymoon in Dublin before heading out to the countryside. The room was exceptional. For a European hotel, it was quite roomy with a king sized bed. The staff was great and breakfast was lovely. The only downside was the location. It's a 10 min. walk at a pretty brisk pace to get to St. Stephen's Green and a solid 25-30 min. to Temple Bar and Trinity College. However, if you're looking for something a little bit removed from the noisy Dublin bar scene, this hotel is the perfect fit.

I spent two nights over the June bank holiday weekend in this hotel and I really enjoyed my visit there. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would advise that you telephone before you arrive to confirm your booking details. We had booked a twin room and got a double. When we asked to be changed we were told that there was no other room available and that the housekeeping staff were gone so the room couldn't be changed. I was there with a good friend(we were in Dublin for the Women's Mini Marathon) so we bunked in(it was an enormous bed anyway) and it was changed next day first thing. This hotel is in a really nice part of the city and although you can hear traffic when the window is open it is muted by the trees surrounding the hotel and wouldn't affect your night's sleep. There is air-conditioning in the room too. I would have to say that the beds are among the most comfortable I have ever slept in in a hotel. Good quality bed linen too. I was really impressed with the breakfast and liked the way that even long after the tables were cleared you were able to linger on with your coffee and read the complimentary newspaper and relax. The bar is frequented by locals and is a proper irish bar(no traditional music and touristy stuff on the walls). They have a good menu but a little expensive for what you get, try The Gasworks bar around the corner for a more extensive menu which is served all day. The schoolhoue doesn't serve food between 3 and 6. Only a 15 stroll to the city centre and also very near the RDS arena, convenient for concerts and shows. Next time I will bring the car as there is a secure car-park on-site. Overall a great place to stay...try it. Also, they have a special rate of just €109 for a twin/double room every Sunday night including breakfast so try make one of your nights a Sunday and it will bring down the cost of your stay!
