“Adorable theme room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We stayed in room 238 for 3 nights and loved it! Comfortable bed, plenty of room, great character! I've never seen a real 'watercloset' toilet! Shower was excellent, and Gillcrest & Soames toiletries are always awesome. Our window faced the back, very quiet! A few birds chirping that's it. Great for sleeping.Front desk staff very helpful. This hotel is about 20 min walking distance from the city center in a very lovely, quiet neighborhood. We ate breakfast at the restaurant one morning, very nice. Parking lot was tight.

Room Tip: 238 very quiet.

Located a 10min walk along a street of dreary, nondescript office buildings from the lovely Marrion Square gardens with its statue of Oscar Wilde, the School House is a pleasant, comfortable small hotel in a C19th former parochial school. The main school buildings are now popular bar and equally popular restaurant with most of the guest rooms in a newer addition at the rear of the building. There is a nice garden terrace at the front with the restored canal to the side of the main building,

Our room described as a suite, was relatively small due being in the gable roof with sloping roof walls, small windows and several large pieces of free standing furniture limiting the usable area. The style was comfortable-contemporary rather than modern or in keeping with the building architecture or history. The bed was very warm and comfortable with good quality linen, but the bathroom was a strictly one person space, with narrow bath which coupled with protruding shower controls and shower curtain made showering a challenge.

Free Wifi, TV with free movies and coffee/tea making facilities (instant, not espresso) were welcome, as well as the ironing board, but I don’t know anyone these days who uses a trouser press.

Breakfasts after the first day’s rather over-cooked eggs and depleted buffet, were very good, with good choice and well presented, and an evening meal amid the rafters of the old school hall was excellent. Staff were helpful, friendly and efficient.

In summary, a slightly off-centre location, made up for by free parking - (why is Dublin the only city where you can only get rental cars at the airport and not downtown?), and a comfortable rather than luxurious standard of accommodation, enhanced by good food and a busy bar.

I didn't pick this one, someone else did, but we were totally enchanted with it. One of our places to see in Dublin was the National Museum of ireland,.......it was a straight shot from the hotel, maybe a 15 minute or so pleasant walk. The hotel is LOVELY and our room delightful and VERY personalized with custom made furniture, and with a quaint theme. The lobby is tiny but fits the atmosphere,......with allowing more space for more important things. The bathrooms all have wall-mounted water tanks with a pull chain. Marble and wood are used wonderfully and tastefully. The dining room across from the lobby is cozy and rustic with a dining balcony up a fleight of stairs, that looks down from the exposed rafters, like a sleeping loft,......the best word I can describe it all with is the one I've already used,....'enchanting'

WOW - Thank you so much for our 5 Star Review! Your lovely comments in relation to the hotel are truly appreciated. All our rooms are individually themed and we have tried our best to portray the character and charm of the building through the interior design in our rooms. Thank you once again for your review.

I stayed here for the Heineken Cup rugby final so was expecting a lot of noise and not much sleep. Was pleasantly surprised as it was wonderfully quite and very relaxing. Will definitely look to stay here again when I next visit. Wasn't the cheapest place to stay but I assume that was because of the big match.

Only gripe was no food available after 10pm - only wanted a sandwich.

Many thanks for your recent review. We are very luck to be so closely located to both the RDS and the Avviva Stadium where great sporting events take place. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us while in the area for the Heineken Cup Final.

Our main bar and restaurant stops serving food at 10pm. However we do offer our guests room service sandwiches 24 hours. I am very sorry if this was not explained on the night.

We hope to see you back at the Schoolhouse Hotel at some time in the future,

Kind Regards,

Therese Seale

Classy! (pardon the pun). This stylish hotel was a pleasure. The rooms, named after noted Irish men and women, were confortable and adorable. The food (at both the bar and restaurant) was beyond fabulous! We hadn't planned on eating in our hotel every night, but once we tasted the wonderful cuisine we were tempted back multiple times during our stay. A few small snags like creaky plumbing were slightly annoying, but to be expected, since the building is very old and historic. A charming and captivating period amibiance throughout-definitely worth a try and very reasonable if you book ahead (as we did).

I was very lucky to stay in the School House Hotel this weekend. Talk about a Gem. I had such a lovely relaxing stay. The staff were so friendly especially the 2 girls on reception.

The food was gorgeous. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there. The restaurant was so warm and cosy in such a lovely room.

Our bedroom was perfect with a lovely quirky bathroom. The beds were so comfortable. I cant recommend this hotel enough. I'll be going back and telling all my friends to stay there.

A hiding gem in a very central location to everything, I couldn't ask for more.

I enjoyed my stay overall. Their single beds seemed a bit larger than your average single and they were very comfortable. (I stayed with a freind and had two singles). My one complaint would be that they advertise free parking available in their parking lot, but they don't tell you that their are limitted spaces, so if you arrive when the lot is full, you have to park on the street and keep feeding the meter. Other than that, it was a nice stay in a very good location.
