“dated but value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

we spent 2 nights there.
location is super, right in the middle of town.
no elevator, we were on the 3rd floor and had to schlepp our suitcases up the stairs. luckily we are reasonably fit.....
rooms are o.k. though dated, bathrooms however are hopelessly small,teeny-tiny and old.
mini-washbasin for 2 persons and no room to leave your stuff.
shower old but lots of hot water, so it worked.
staff at reception very friendly and helpfull.
breakfast :lots to eat but not very good quality, and cramped.
no aircondtioning in building, so i imagine it will be very hot in summer

Room Tip: ask for a room at the rear of the building,

My self and my husband have just returned from 1 night at this hotel and that was enough, very dated. On arrival not very welcoming, room had a musty smell, breakfast was rushed did not seem to be a place where you felt relaxed. Some members of staff very helpful, the location of the hotel is good overlooking St Stephens Green only the windows needed a good clean

I'm having a hard time rating them because I liked a lot of things so it probably is more like 3.5 stars.

The location was quite good - it is central and you can walk almost anywhere, but it is quiet because it is right up against the park. The interior in the main part was nicely decorated and there were several different sitting rooms that were quaint and very pleasant to sit in. The breakfast area is downstairs and a bit dark, but also nice.

Staff was very helpful and friendly. We arrived early Friday morning having just flown in from NY and they took care of our luggage for us and even offered us the regular full breakfast that day.

The room was a nice size with a wardrobe, writing desk, chair, nice window with a view. Smallish TV but I don't watch TV so I don't care. Bathroom was functional - not cramped, also with a large (glazed) window. Bathtub with shower head. Nothing fancy but everything worked.

What we were not happy with was the walls seemed non-existent - you could hear guests in the nearby rooms much more intrusively than I would expect and it was pretty disruptive. I also thought the mattress was relatively hard.

The breakfast was convenient and tasty but would get old quickly - there was a choice of buffet with cold cereals, yogurt, etc., vegetarian, and Irish breakfast. The Irish breakfast had egg, toast, broiled tomato, bacon. Egg choices of poached and fried (and probably a couple others), but the poached and fried both obviously came out of one of those egg cooking devices that seem to make the eggs kind of the same no matter which way you serve them. Coffee and Tea (and the tea was decent) and they had milk & juice out. Eggs and bacon were the only cooked choices (they had black and white pudding which I meant to try but we weren't there long enough and I wasn't that hungry given the time shift)

So, all in all, we were reasonably happy with the place and would recommend it as a reasonable choice with the caveats noted.

Room Tip: We were in the back facing the garden in what I think is the "newer" section. Too much noi...

This was our first hotel after flying in from Atlanta. We were pretty sure that we would not be allowed to check in at 9;00 a.m. local time, but the cheerful young man on the desk found us a quiet room where we were able to get a nap before hopping on the tour bus. We had enough room to open suitcases and still be able to walk around them--not always the case--and we were quite near the breakfast room, which had lots of choices and got us on our way the next day. You can walk to a number of restaurants and shopping locations. Right across the park from one of the tour bus stops, also Trinity College. There are charming little sitting rooms here and there around the first floor, and internet access was very convenient. Good choice for many reasons.

Room Tip: Street noise would be a consideration if your room is on the front of the building.

This hotel is close to the city centre on a busy street but this did not bother us as our room was at the back and very quiet. The layout is very much of the rabbit warren school of architecture being a number of Georgian houses (three I think) knocked into one. There are no lifts but resting landings halfway up each flight of stairs. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. When in the bathroom be careful of the hot water, any hotter and it would be steam coming out of the tap there is a real risk of scalds. Being close to the city centre was usefull as there are a number of good restaurants nearby which is as well because Stauntons does not serve dinner. The breakfast was disappointing, it consisted of one egg, one sausage two rashers of bacon and half a tomato and they seemed to have been kept warm for some time as it was all a bit dried out by the time it got to the table.

We stayed at Stauntons one night as we arrived in Dublin from a US flight. We planned to just drop our bags and tour until our room was ready, but our bags had been sent on another flight. The very helpful young man at the front desk offered to let us choose another room that was available at 9am. We were able to sleep for a few hours before seeing the city. When our bags did not arrive that day, Michelle was SO friendly and understanding. She helped us contact the airlines.
The room itself was pretty clean and comfortable. This is a good choice near city center, the park and the tour bus stops without being right in the very noisest busy areas. I would suggest this as a good option in Dublin.

Room Tip: We stayed in the family room off the breakfast room. This is NOT the room if you want to sleep in pa...

This hotel was nice. The bed and pillows were comfortable, giving a good night's sleep (and, after all, isn't a good night's sleep the reason to go to a hotel?). The front desk personnel super helpful and very friendly. The one drawback? You need to walk blocks to get anywhere for dinner. Breakfasts are typical for this part of the world, though they take special requests if possible. The location, right across the street from St. Stephens Green made walking to other parts of the city extremely easy.
