“Awful service and location”

Ibis Dublin West

Jun 9, 2008

Arrived at this hotel for a girlie weekend away. Flew in, then a bus into town, then the tram for the hotel.

The hotel is situated literally on the otherside of a Motorway... e.g. by foot its awful to get to.

Went to check in, and was asking information to the hotel staff, about buses, how to get to the centre, is there a hotel to move to... basically I was looking for someone to relieve my stress, this was not so. The receptionist did not speak very good english, and was not very bothered. The check in was extremely busy and at 5pm on a friday, I would expect more staff.

eventually we checked in, room was cold, dirty, very plain. Not nice at all.

Service all round by the staff was poor. English was at a very low standard, mainly french people working.

If you have a car, etc then maybe this is ok, but for ladies alone etc, its a very isolated place to be at night.

It cost 40 euros to the airport from the hotel.

Stayed here off and on for a few years now. More recently been staying in the north of the city, but came back here for a change.

Change is the right word. Stayed in one of the recently redecorated rooms and, although nordic in it's sparseness, it was very comfortable. The bed still has the rubber/plastic mattress cover but it didn't make me sweat like the one in the rooms other times I stayed here. In fact I had a good nights sleep. You will want extra pillows, the reception produce them so quickly that I suspect that they are regularly asked for them.

The bar area has improved, much more comfortable to sit in for a last late night drink, but not the type of place you'd sit for a drinking session.

Didn't try the breakfast or any food here, Bewleys is not far away and much better for food (and a decent bar). Clondalkin is a 5 minute drive and has a few bars and restaurants. Nothing to do in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, you will need a car unless you just catch the tram into the city.

The tram stop for Dublin city centre is just across the road, but the roadworks at the moment are horrendous - there's no problem with disturbance, just the the road layout seems to change everytime you try to get to the hotel carpark.

Overall this place has to be recommended - especially at the price. Check in can be a bit slow, but everyone is very pleasant.

    • Liked — So easy to find (once the roadworks are finished)
    • Disliked — Bar area could still be improved further

Well a 40 EUR cab ride from the airport was expensive, thats because there was no other option really at 11pm in the evening.

The rooms were a bit dull, why not put up a few paintings IBIS?

The reception staff were French, and very slow at their job - it seemed to take forever to check a couple of rooms in. One man stood around seemingly doing nothing.

Breakfast is good value at 9 EUR full Irish and self service buffet. And the hotel is useful to catch the tram into the city, of course with bags we ended up heading back to the airport in a cab, adding another almost 40 EUR to the cost.

Not bad for a 55 EUR a night room rate, wouldnt want to pay a penny more for the slow service and dull rooms.

The Hotel is not very close to the city centre (20 minutes or more by taxi; 30 minutes by tram), but there is a tram stop close to the hotel. Tram is quite cheap (2€). Standard rooms are nice, quite spacious and clean. Staff is very courteous. It's a good solution to visit Dublin staying in a quite cheap and conformtable hotel.
