“Simple, clean, well located and free WiFi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

No complaints. The room was clean, the staff was courteous, breakfast was delicious and the price was good. We were 20m from the city center on foot. There was a canal out front that was picturesque. Out the door and left there were a few nice neigjborhood pubs. To the right, there was a chip shop. All good. Overall, I'd stay there again.

Room Tip: I had a room facing the parking lot in the rear. Ask for a room on the front side if possible.

The hotel is located right across the street from a Grand Canal and 15 minute walk from the city center. The immediate area has some bars, restaurants and coffee shop, which we found to be especially convenient since our rate did not include a breakfast. The hotel service was professional, nice and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Since we were on a second floor and facing the street, I was slightly concerned about the road noise. However, both my husband and I had no issues sleeping through the night. I would defiantly stay here again.

We traveled in Ireland for three weeks and the Mespil was the worst hotel we stayed in. That is not to say it was terrible but was overpriced, must have some of the thinnest towels in Ireland along with the worst shower. (In addition to having poor water pressure the water would stop several times during one shower.), {Anyone familiar with the Sienfield episode on poor shower heads knows what I'm talking about.} The window drapes were too short to block out all the light and since sunrise was at 5:30am bring a sleep mask if you stay here.
The room was clean, beds comfortable and a free computer in the lobby was a plus.

We didn't spend much time in the hotel itself, but the sleep was more than adequate. The bed was super-comfortable, room was clean, bathroom was roomy. The room was a bit hot, so we kept the windows open both nights.

Free wifi; you can get the code from the front desk. It worked pretty good in the room.

You are just a short walk from St. Stephen's Green and a tad further to the touristy area and Grafton street. If you are driving, it is easy to get to and from the hotel, with parking in the rear.

On Thursdays, there is a gourmet food market just across the street on the canal. Several Mediterranean type food vendors, some German food as well.

I would recommend staying here, especially if you don't mind walking around to catch the city.

Thank you for your recent review of the Mespil Hotel Dublin.

Delighted to see that you had an enjoyable stay with us and that you found the rooms very comfortable and spacious. The location worked well for you within easy walking distance to St Stephen’s Green and I see you also discovered the Gourmet market on Thursday…which sells a variety of food specialties. Good to see you were impressed with the complimentary wifi and parking.

Great to see that you would recommend the hotel and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

To get to my room I had to go upstairs, along and down again which seemed a little odd. It was not a problem but if you have heavy bags it is worth checking where your room is before taking the key. The room was tidy and clean and I slept like a log. The sink did not drain very well but I didn't get around to mentioning it and so didn't give the hotel a chance to rectify it. We had an early start on the Saturday and I had told my crew we'd be able to sneak in early for breakfast but the restaurant staff were very Germanic in not letting us in before the official opening time of 7. On the Sunday I wanted to sit at the table next to one of my friends but the waitress insisted it was taken because of the way the napkin was folded. My friend assured her no one was actually sitting there but to no avail. Two more of us arrived and similarly tried to use the vacant table only to be rejected before the offending napkin was rearranged. By contrast the bar staff were much less uptight and were friendly and helpful but I thought on a Friday and Saturday it could have stayed open later than midnight. The price was very good for such a central location and parking was included which was a real plus.

Room Tip: If you have heavy bags check that you can just go straight up to your room.

Thank you for your recent review of the Mespil Hotel Dublin.

Great to see that you had an enjoyable stay with us and found the hotel good value for such a central location. Breakfast in the hotel can be extremely busy so apologies for not being able to sit next to your friends – our staff obviously thought the table had been given to another guest, which is a pity…

Good to hear that you ‘slept like a log’ and I hope we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back next time you are in Dublin.

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Mespil Hotel.

I recommend the hotel highly, the hotel is well presented, the staff are extremely friendly & helpful and our room was modern and of a high standard and there is free wi-if.

On our arrival, we turned up early (approximate 4hours before check in) just to see the hotel & get our bearings, but the hotel did let us check in early which was great.

If you are there on the Thursday there is a lovely gourmet food market opposite the hotel which is definitely worth a quick visit.

The location is brilliant, it's only a 10 minute walk to St Stephen's Green, and is close to various bus stops into town. The buses are very easy to use! We bought a 3 day local bus pass from the airport which was only 15 euros (this included the bus to and from the airport).

There wasn't a mini fridge in our room, which was a shame as we had bottled water that couldn't be kept cool.

And we had one drink in the hotel's 'Terrace Bar' which was disappointing because the drinks served were warm, and 2 Jamesons and a mixer came to around 16 euros (there are plenty of other pubs around which have better prices and better atmosphere)

We had a late flight, the hotel offered a late check out for 40euros, which we didn't pay but the hotel has a secure luggage room which we were able to use free of charge.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay, and would stay here again if we returned to Dublin :)

Thank you for your recent review of the Mespil Hotel Dublin.

Great to see that you would highly recommend the hotel and that you had an enjoyable stay with us. You managed to check-in early and then started discovering Dublin by bus – good idea to get the 3 Day bus pass from reception. Good to see you enjoyed the Gourmet Market which is there every Thursday for lunch, and is very popular. Thank you for the kind comments regarding our staff.

I hope we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the Mespil Hotel next time you return to Dublin.

Stayed 3 nights (not together). Hotel was very nice, but at least a 15 min. walk to nearest attraction. It took me about 40 mins. to St. Patrick's Cathedral. It is on the canal and that is interesting to watch the canal boats locking. Also no pool if you like to unwind after walking all day.

Thank you for your recent review of the Mespil Hotel Dublin.

Delighted to see that you had an enjoyable stay with us and enjoyed the views overlooking the Grand Canal. I would recommend using the Dublin Bus ‘Hop on, Hop off’ bus tour as they offer a complimentary shuttle from our hotel to the stating point of the tour…and then you can enjoy the sights of Dublin including St Patrick’s Cathedral which is great to visit.

I hope we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the Mespil Hotel.
