“Hotel of No Return - Rancid Steak, Rude Duty Manager, and Noisy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2011

A group of four of us (all girls) stayed in this hotel recently, up for a concert in the Aviva Stadium. We went with a package deal they offered, two rooms with Bed, Breakfast and Dinner. It was problematic from start to finish to say the least.

The two steaks we ordered were rancid. The smell was nothing short of stomach wrenching. It wasn't just us either, others in the restaurant were returning their food because of it also. Couldn't get over that the staff in the kitchen never noticed the very obvious smell and that the steak had gone bad. Its sitting there in the kitchen waiting to be cooked, its not hard to spot. They offered us another item on the menu but we decided against it in case all the food was poor. As a result of this, we returned to the hotel straight after the gig as two of our party felt unwell.

The bus to the concert was at half four. The gates opened at 6 and its not that far a drive. No idea why they left so early and you had to pay €10 each. Was much cheaper for us to go via taxi, €25. Other hotels charged €3.

The duty manager was simply rude. Our taxi driver brought us in and raised his concerns about the two girls feeling unwell, and the manager was very rude and sarcastic commenting on his profession and telling him that it had nothing to do with him.

The same manager said he would be on duty all night if we needed anything, as we had asked would there be someone on seeing as room service finished at half 11. We asked for warm 7up and got it. When we were going to bed, we noticed that two pillows were in the one case. When removing the extra pillow, it appeared to be blood stained. Why they never replaced the pillow is beyond me. We tried calling reception several times to get a new pillow and got no answer.

The room behind us woke us up at 6am with the TV on full volume and talking loudly. Perhaps just in from a late night or early risers, we tried calling reception again several times to ask them to speak with the room and ask them to turn down the volume. Again, no answer. So one of the girls went out to knock on the door but spotted a cleaner who agreed to sort it. She did, but the noise didn't stay low very long. It took three unanswered calls before we got it resolved at around 9am. The second call eventually got answered but the third call was only answered when I dialled the landline number for the hotel via my mobile.

In the second room we had booked, a cleaner knocked once and entered the room early in the morning. She proceeded to engage with the two girls who were in bed, telling them they hadn't arranged a late check-out. She only left when she was told there was. She should have left as soon as she saw them in bed, and asked the manager or reception to speak with them via the hotel phone.

When we raised all this with the manager the next day we were firstly offered a free nights stay the next weekend. After refusing and further talking, he refunded us our money and said the overall manager would call us the next day. This call never came.

Overall, very poor hotel and its a chain (Brennans). No interest in customer service and provided a very poor service from start to finish.

Room Tip: More modern rooms seemed nicer and more spacious.

We stayed here for a chess tournament last weekend for two nights. The good points of the hotel are as follows,Very accesible,Very good value for money, the food and the bar were very good, and the staff were very friendly!Although there were some bad points which are,Rooms overlooking the dualcarriage way were very noisy and stuffy, lots of late night noise after the bar shut which affected some peoples sleep at night and lastly there was no newspapers at the reception.Overall it was a very functional and good value stay but just bear in mind the bad points mentioned?!

Room Tip: Don't get a room overlooking dual carriage way

What a bazaar place to stay! Truly this place is only a place to rest your head at night. Dirty room, bad food (NOT WORTH IT IF NOT INCLUDED IN HOTEL STAY), uncomfortable beds & bedding, filthy hallways. We arrived on a Thursday night (very late) and the place was looking sad on the inside. A reception taking place in the main area, bottle all over the hallways, smokey smelling in some of the long and confusing hallways. A young puppy somehow was in the hallway. He followed us to our room and even barreled his way in to our room!!!!! We called the front desk in which they asked if we wanted to keep him?!? We took it with a sense of humor, but this was a truly bazaar place to stay. I can't say I would recommend it unless you are just looking for the super cheap and dirty option. We certainly won't use this place again.

I stay here for a week with my spouse and my 2 years old girl nice hotel nice locations big car park and a bus just outside the door that take you to the city centre room was big we had coffee and tea facility bed and towel linen were changed daily bar nice but no atmosphere bar staff nice the hotel need though a better cleaning staff the windows the floor the blinds down the receptions are badly in need of a good clean the carpet outside the rooms was very loose andeasy to trip on it we were on the 2 floor and one of the corridor door had a cracked glass and I was worried every time my little one was pushing it to open the door as I say the rooms were clean only one day we were disappointed we left the room at 8 am we were back at 330 and our room was not done yet restaurant food poor breakfast very expensive 10 euro for full Irish and 750 for continental one morning we had 2 teas 1 sausage for our girl and I glass of juice we were charged 1750 euros ! Another evening we went to the restaurant and ask an old lady probably the restaurant manager 1 dessert she told as to take a sit and she will have sent a weithress to us after 20 minutes we ask a girl at the restaurant counter and nucely she say she will have sent someone but after another 15 minutes we had enough so we left very disappointed. The pool is small clean but cold the jacuzzi is freezen and the kids pool is the worse but we enjoy it except one day when we got the towels get changed and found the pool already tiny taken by a group of kids that were playing handball there was no room and the ball was keeping hitting my girl so we ask one of the member why was nit a sign outside stating that kids were play in the pool a game for an hr so we would avoid to get change and pay for the towels we were told that they would have been over at 4 pm so we went backto the reception co
Plaining we had no problemwith kids play a game but if we were told before we went in that would have be nice the man at the reception state that the pool was a different management and he would have told them of our complain the overall is a nice hotel in need of more cleaning especially the front windows .staff seems lacking of effort and smile a part from the bar staff we did enjoy our stay despite few downs good security staff and would be nice if the staff who collect empty glass and bottles from the reception tables give a quick wipe with a dump cloth . The daily complimentary newspaper was not there if you looking for good money value go here just hope they had improved their cleaning standard and manners :)

Myself and my sister stayed for the weekend so we could do some relaxing and shopping. The hotel was lovely, very easy to find right off the main road, staff were lovely on arrival and very welcoming. Our room was beautiful, clean and very spacious. The leisure centre was clean, pool could have been a little warmer but very nice.
Breakfast was lovely, food was hot and refilled often, staff were very nice and quick to help. The dining room was nicely decorated and very clean. The bar was nice the entertainment on saturday night was vey good.
We were given a tour of the family rooms on the morning we checked out by a lovely staff member called Sarah, we've booked into the hotel again in July for ourselves and our families, looking forward to enjoying the hotel with our families. We will be using The Green Isle Hotel whenever we go to dublin!

Nice hotel from outside and reception nice too. Big dining area and bar section. On entering the bedroom we were greeted by a foul smell of smoke (I specifically asked for non-smoking room). The walls were covered in black marks, it appeared a door to a press had been broken/removed off from desk area. One spoon at the tea/coffee making facilities and it was a dirty spoon! We had a fridge, not as clean as I would expect it to be and smelled a bit off too. The chair had seen better days, the covering on the seat was in bits. The bathroom was clean (thank God!!). The carpet in the corridors was all bumpy and lumpy, if they would like their guests to trip then they are doing a great job. The glass in the door of our corridor was smashed!
It advertises free wifi, I couldn't connect in bedroom but maybe it only works in reception.
Only stayed here as we got the room quite cheap. Would stay again but it wouldn't be my first option, maybe my last option!
We didn't eat at hotel, instead went to Joels which isn't too far. We wished we had tried food at hotel though. I would not recommend Joels, its like a whitherspoons restaurant in the UK. The food is poor quality & greasy.
