“We loved it and can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2006

Living in Holyhead, I have always wanted to go over the Irish sea and stay in a central city hotel. I did it last August! My husband and I took our two grandchildren aged 14 and 10 and we had the time of our life. The room, entertainment and food were great and the atmosphere was everything I had imagined. I really, really, really want to go again soon! Fabulous! Full marks to the staff who were really laid back and provided a wonderful service.

My husband and I have just spent an extended weekend at the Arlington. We have visited Dublin before staying elsewhere but decided this time to be centralised.

Being central we expected a noisy, busy hotel and of course this is what we got. However what was over and above what was expected was the very courteous, helpful staff - from the reception to the wonderful lady overseeing the breakfast room to the very accommodating Manager Mr Ken McEntee!

The reception area has recently been improved with marble flooring and looks very swish! The flooring in the main bar is due to be replaced shortly. The bar is huge and spectacularly decked out with fairy lights. The irish entertainment including wonderful dancers is excellent.

Our room was perfectly adequate with a marble decked bathroom and very large king size bed.

All in all if location is important to you I would thoroughly recommend the Arlington.

We enjoyed our stay at the Arlington. We expected to be checked into a double room but were pleasantly surprised when we were upgraded to a family room. We arrived early and they were very gracious in allowing us to check in. The room was absolutely huge!!! There were 2 double beds as well as a twin bed in there and still tons of space. The evening's entertainment was a lot of fun!

Be aware, though - it can be very noisy until the wee hours of morning. It was also very stuffy in the room, so we had our windows open. This didn't really help our cause in trying to find some quiet as the music from the bar downstairs (as well as street traffic) was very loud. Overall, though, the location cannot be beat, the staff were above and beyond friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

  • Liked — Location, location, location
  • Disliked — Could be very noisy- earplugs should do the trick!
  • Tips/Secrets — Take advantage of eating dinner in the restaurant- you can make reservations and get a table up close and personal to the evening entertainment

The hotel has an excellent location and is an excellent base for a visit to Dublin. Not a place for a quiet weekend.

Couple in 20's - 4 nights - July 2006

Cleanness : 8/10 - Restraunt, room and corridors very clean, however some work was being done to the reception at time of visit.

Staff : 7/10 - Helpfull and polite to those who show decency and patience. A little disorganised/stressed at times. Room service was on time and food arrived hot.
In ordering drinks from the bar, staff offered to bring these up to our room.
Room service was on time and very polite.
Reception staff did their best with difficult customers.

Food 8.5/10 : Breakfast's were relatively limited although well cooked and good quality .
The meal we had in the main restaurant was first class.
The restaurant is quite rustic and staff were very quick to take our orders and deliver. The food was perfectly cooked and there was plenty of value for money. We highly recommend the duck.

Drinks 7/10:

The hotel has a large bar which is also a nightclub after certain times on certain nights. Bouncers on the door monitor people coming into main hotel.
Every drink you could want is there but service is slow as it is very popular day and night.
Certainly not the most expensive place to drink but not the cheapest.

Room : 6.5

Our room was very warm and the bed/pillow were very hard.
Clean, tidy but a little dated.
Ok for the stay but avoid road side rooms because of noise.

Check-in/extra services : 9/10

Checkin was effortless, we booked via Thompson and contacted the hotel directly to ensure they had our booking.
The champagne and flowers we in the room upon arrival as requested and were worth the money.

Wash and ironing of our shirts was efficient, delivered to our room and of good quality.

Other comments :

The hotel appears to have a large turn arround customers of mixed nationality and all looking for different types of breaks.
The hotel is located near temple bar and all the shops.
There is a Dulin tour bus stop right outside the door.

Taxi from the airport costs between EUR 20-26.

We would recommend this to young couples/groups and those after a good time without paying for absolute luxury.

The staff at the Arlington could not do enough for us. We asked for a non-smoking room and quiet and got both. Had a massive bed. Breakfast was fab, even though renovations were taking place, still got great service. In the bar on the evening the waitress did everything for us and we had a lovely meal and finally an ice cold bottle of wine, entertainment was excellent and staff were very attentive. Carmel rules the roost in the restaurant for breakfast, but all the staff respect her. She is welcoming and talks to you, like she has known you forever. She makes sure that everyone is seen to quickly and makes sure that tea and coffee flow all the time. I certainly recommend this hotel and would go back again. It is an ideal location right on the River Iffey.

Shabby and run down, the whole place is very tacky and has gone down hill over the last 3 years. Not some where you would want to stay if you like anything traditional or stylish.
Loud, brash and nasty

We chose the Arlington because of its central location and the reasonable price we were able to obtain. We were somewhat dissapointed with the quality of the room and the quality of the service. Our greeting when we arrived tired and jet lagged at 10:00 am could only be described as rude, and the room had unreliable plumbing and inadequate lighting. Despite repeated requests, they never did unblock our phone. Nevertheless, it was adequate for our purposes, and the location can't be beat.
