I stayed at the Davenport for one night at the beginning of March 2007, for the purpose of attending a two-day conference in one of their business suites.
I found the historic stone hotel to be clean and comfortable throughout, and the staff were largely helpful and pleasant. When I arrived early on the Monday morning I was offered complimentary coffee which was a nice touch.
The bedroom which I had was of medium size with a marble bathroom, and met all of my requirements. The serve-yourself buffet breakfast was very good – cereals, fruits, breads, etc. as well as everything you need for a full Irish fry. The lunch which we were served as part of the conference was fine – nothing to get excited about, but it was tasty and fresh. The bar was lively each evening but the group I was with was always served quickly. Drinks prices would be comparable to any hotel bar in Dublin, i.e., expensive! A pint of Guinness was about 4.00 euro.
The hotel has a private car park about 250m walk from the hotel, which is shared with its three other sister hotels, but this is seriously pricey. My stay from the Monday morning to Tuesday evening cost 53.50 euro. I’m sure that if you needed help transporting you luggage it would be made available, although it won’t be offered.
Possibly the main factor for recommending this hotel would be its prime location just beside Merrion Square. From there it is only a fifteen minute stroll to Grafton Street, and even less to many of Dublin’s attractions, parks and shops. The bars and restaurants on and around Dawson Street are only ten minutes walk.
