“Worst hotel ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2009

After having booked and paid 2 rooms one month in advance, when I was checking in the hotel, I was told they had no rooms available because it was overbooked.

I sent an email with a formal complaint, but I never heard back, so imagine the type of service they provide.

We spent a week in Dublin, and the O'Callaghan Davenport was our first stop. It was reasonably priced, so we weren't expecting a ton of extras. We arrived around 8 am, and dropped off our luggage while we found breakfast. We returned around 10 am to get some things out of our bags, and were pleasantly surprised to find our room was ready. We asked for - and received - a king-size bed, and it was amazing. So soft and comfortable, with big fluffy pillows and soft linens. We were also thrilled to find that they had a series of outlets for a variety of countries, including US - so I didn't need my adaptor for my hair dryer. It also had free wi-fi - a very nice touch!

The staff were very friendly - we didn't need a lot of information, but we saw one of the clerks pull up a Google map for some other guests, and showed them a variety of attractions within walking distance.

We only stayed one night, and didn't eat at the hotel - but the bar seemed nice (though the breakfast looked a bit expensive). Overall, we would love to stay at this hotel again if we're ever in Dublin.

If you are going to visit this great city definitely stay at O'Callaghan's Davenport. This hotel is located near many of the major attactions you will want to see in Dublin - museums, parks, Trinity College, shopping. It is right across from Marrion Square where you can pick up the hop on and off bus. You are about a 5-10 minute walk from Trinity College. Graffton Street is nearby as are the National Museums.

The hotel is an attractive old traditional hotel with a fantastic staff. We switched hotels at the end of our coach tour and arrived at the Davenport very early. We had a walking tour that was to start at 11 AM so we were expecting to just be able to check our bags and then come back at the end of our walking tour but they put us in our room right away (about 9 AM) and the place was spotless. We were in a standard room and it was great (large, clean, well appointed) so their superior rooms must be truly exceptional.

The President's Bar became our favourite spot to grab a bite to eat. They have a full menu (full enough anyway) and the setting is fantastic.

On our last night we had to get access to e-mail to print our ticket as we changed our flight status. The night manager (I believe his name is Ashley) went out of his way to help us out and didn't give up until we figured it out.

The O'Callaghan's Davenport is a great spot to stay not just because it is a lover, well-maintained old building but also (and more importantly) because of its excellent staff.

Really lovely hotel, great location and extremely helpful and pleasant staff.
We had two rooms - both lovely. We were even given an upgrade for one room which was extremely nice.
We got there earlier than expected and there was no problem checking in early.
Returning to the hotel on Saturday night, wet and cold (after Springsteen concert), there was no food available except through room service. There were other concert goers returned to the hotel that night asking for food and were given the same answer. A short while later a member of staff came round the tables asking if we still wanted to order food.
This is what I really liked about this hotel. The staff used their initiative, didn't make a song and dance about things, smiled just went on and did things for the benefit of the customer.
Thanks to all of you - I hope your employer appreciates you!

I booked this hotel an hour before check in online through a hotel selection site, after trying unsuccessfully on the hotels own site. After arriving it became clear why i couldn't book it on their own site as the hotel was completely booked out. The receptionist however was able to find me a room that was not being used as its phone was broken this didn't bother me as I wasn't planning on using it anyway. The room was clean with a large flat screen Tv which had a good selection of excellently priced paid movies. The bathroom had amazing water pressure and the bath filled in about a minute. The hotel appeared to be very busy when I arrived as a graduation from a nearby University were staying there. The room remained quite however throughout the night.

I would stay here again.

We arrived at the hotel early (7-7:30am?) Sat morning from the US, planning to drop our bags and explore the city. the only complaint I have about the hotel was that morning- we had just arrived, clearly disoriented, and we asked about getting coffee. We were directed to a local stretch of cafes up the street. We walked there and none were open - so we actually walked back to the hotel, to ask if we had gone in the right direction. When we returned the front desk staff was like "oh yeah, they open a bit later" which would have been nice to hear at first rather than after, and the whole thing was a bit vague. We wound up walking to Bewley's on Grafton Street (easy walk) and by the time we got there it was open. I figured things right on Grafton would open sooner - this hotel (which is incidentally right across the street from a few other O'Callaghan hotels) is a short walk to Grafton Street, Temple Bar, and basically borders St Stephen's Green.
The room was nice - very clean, with ample tea/instant coffee in the rooms which was enough to get us at least downstairs. We never ate at the hotel just because there were plenty of places close-by (Insomnia - a starbucks style place is a 2 min walk down the street, and everyday except our first was open by the time we woke up :) There are also several pubs w/in walking distance including one right on the right side of the hotel (behind it coming from St stephen's green) that is quite nice.

This was a great place explore Dublin for the first time - close to the central tours and Temple Bar but there were not people partying right outside our window on our weekend stay.

I stayed here for about 7 nights for business/pleasure and was generally happy with this hotel. Good location, quiet, convenient to the DART, good restaurants, bars, etc.. The rooms are large (especially for Dublin) and the staff were all really great. Bar and food were very good and overall value for $ was the best I've experienced in Dublin (I visit frequently). Only complaint is the internet didn't work great....had to have 'wired' in my room even though they supposedly have wireless. It was slow both wired and wireless when it worked...and they charged for it which is not the norm for other hotels I stay in Dublin.
