“Classy place in excellent Dublin location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2009

I've stayed at a lot of nicer US hotels, and this is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in anywhere. Classy is a better description. We got a GREAT rate for our last two nights in Dublin of a 10 night Ireland vacation. I did a lot of research and settled on this, and I was thrilled with the Davenport. We stayed the first night of our vacation across the street at the Mont Clare, then moved on. The Mont Clare is nice and perfectly fine, but the Davenport is quite a bit nicer. So if you compare prices and get a decent price on the Davenport, stay there. The rooms are immaculate and first class. Very clean bathrooms and halls. Loved the bar, although it was rather quiet when we were there. Perfect location as a base to explore Dublin - within walking distance of just about everything, including Temple Bar area. Decent pubs closeby (and pubs for some of the not-so-young anymore! So you're not locked into Temple Bar.) Free parking a few blocks away - a little tricky getting in and out, but free and secure. Really fantastic location and very beautiful hotel. We had 4 rooms and there's a pub across the street which apparently you can hear late at night from some of the rooms, but I didn't hear it. Really, really, nice place which we got at a fantastic rate, even for Dublin, which included a full breakfast. I'd stay here (first choice) or Mont Clare across the street (second choice) my next time in Dublin - they are both part of the same O'Callaghan chain. You can't go wrong with Davenport - it's high class, elegant and charming right in one of the best locations in Dublin.

good location , no service, no bellman, no one offered to take us to our room, no one showed us how anything worked in room (hvac), only one waitstaff person in dinning room at breakfast, food not refilled, i had to get up from table to request service, left early saturday morning was promised continental breakfast, cereal, milk, some pastry, tea +coffee left at table , no water , no juice, no refills , no service. one person on duty at front desk could not find anyone from kitchen or waitstaff. entire staff should be sent for "ritz carlton" training. paid for 3 rooms for 2 nights , standard rooms larger then delux , go figure. definitely not 4 stars.

The Davenport on Merrion Square provided us with a fine base for two days in Dublin. We started with a request for an early check-in (7:30 a.m.) which was met promptly and cheerfully. Breakfast was ample, varied and well served in a charming setting. Rooms were plenty large and comfortable. Room service was prompt and very satisfactory. The lounge/bar was well appointed and served a nice mix of food. Trinity College and the museums are falling-out-the-door close, and nothing we wanted to see was more than a pleasant walk away, including St. Stephan,s, Grafton Street, Temple Bar, and Pro Cathedral. Nothing was over the top, but nothing disappointed, either. We traveled with our three youngest ( teenagers) and they were soon settled in and "at home." We would stay again knowing that it's a sure thing.

We stayed at the Davenport for two nights while in dublin and returned again for our last night. On our first arrival we were met by John who checked us in(@ 10am!), brought our bags to our room and when my husband could not find the garage(about one block away) he even went in the car to show him in the RAIN. We ate in the bar and were really happy when we seen real traditional irish food. The guinness was excellent. All you can eat buffet for breakfast was a nice start to our day! When we left John took our bags until we arrived back two days later and even met us on arrival our second time! The other receptionist Lucial was always happy and welcoming.

We stayed here our first night in Ireland to recover from jet lag before exploring the rest of the country. The hotel is very clean, staff is friendly, and we really appreciated the little things like a good shower head, large comfy bed, US-compatible outlets in the rooms, and free, fast Wi-Fi. The view from the window was over an adjacent parking lot courtyard, which was not so elegant, but we didn't stay in during the day anyway. Breakfast here is not included like it is with a B&B, but there are many nice places to eat just about two blocks down by Trinity College. This is a great location to stay for seeing most of the city on foot, although if you are coming from the airport you might want to take a cab or a get one once you arrive in the city via bus, since we ended up walking over a mile with our luggage to get there from the bus stop (fine if you are healthy and travel light, not so fine if you are not healthy or carry a large suitcase).

Myself and a few girlfriends visited Dublin for the first time recently and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were all very impressed with the layout of the hotel and comfort of our beds and size of bedrooms. Breakfast and evening meals were delicious and excellent value for money, as were the drinks (cheaper than elsewhere in Dublin)! Above all the reception staff (in particular John) were an absolute delight. Not only were they accommodating and helpful but comedic and entertaining at the same time. We had to pull some of the girls away on several occasions as they swooned to the sound of that lovely Irish lilt. Location is fairly central but our feet hurt after so much walking that we would have liked the hotel to come to us - but you can't have everything! Highly recommended.

We have just returned from 3 nights at the Davenport Hotel, and thought it was great. We got a warm and friendly welcome on our arrival, earlier than check-in time, but our room was ready. The room was clean and very comfortable, and we had everything we needed. We asked for advice on restaurants and areas in Dublin, and we were given names, maps and lots of information which was all very helpful. The front desk staff were great, as were the bar staff. We love the Irish accent and sense of humour and got examples of both all through our visit. We ate at the Milano Restaurant in Dawson Street (Italian) - very good - and the Blarney Inn which has good, fresh local food. We enjoyed a drink or two in The Ginger Man pub across the road from the hotel, which was busy and full of atmosphere on Thursday and Friday evenings, but strangely quite empty on the Saturday night. All in all we were very pleased with our choice of hotel for the staff, comfort and central area, and would have no hesitation in staying there again, and recommending it to anyone.
