“August week at the Davenport”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

We had the greatest week at the Davenport. The price was very reasonable and the beds were super comfortable. Bathroom was great. Location was perfect for making daily trips. Very central . The staff was so-so but the taxi drivers provided excellent information. We took the rapid transit to some locations at their suggestion. 3rd floor room.

I had contacted the hotel prior to going via email and been assured I would be allocated a king bedded room on the sixth floor with a great view and ended up with queen room on the third floor overlooking a noisy vent shaft. They were unwilling to change the room as they were fully booked and the only room they had available was being aired out due to something being spilled in the room. I checked out this room, it stank to the point of being uninhabitable!

Parking was 10 euros / night at a parkade down the street a ways, WiFi was $10 euros/day and to get more than a couple of channels on the TV cost 9.95 Euros/day. Seriously, we pay enough to stay at this hotel, there is no need to nickel and dime customers to death.

The food in the lobby bar was good, as was the service - mind you the old waiter was sneaking a drink every once and while. The breakfast buffet was attacked by bus tour people to the point of constantly empty bins. The staff were also hit and miss. Some were very good and some were either rude or disinterested.

Given that there are much better hotels at the same rate and closer to the main attractions downtown, they really need to get their act together.

I stayed here for two nights with CIE Tours on September 9th and 10th. Since our flight arrived in at 5 am, I also purchased a pre-night stay. When we arrived at the hotel at 5:45 am, we were given our room right away. Check in was easy as was check out.

We were in room 7622 and the room had a huge king bed and spacious bathroom. The decor was nice, nothing fancy. The Davenport is in a great location. You can walk to everything. The staff was willing to help and answer any questions.

Breakfast was very good each day. There were enough choices for everyone. The staff was quick to get you anything you needed.

I would stay here again. It's a charming old Irish hotel that does need some updating but it met our needs for our stay.

Bottom line: I would not stay here again, given the choice. As it was, this was part of a package deal and was touted as the "4-star option."

Positives: breakfast was always hot and fresh, with a wide variety of options; room was comfortable and clean; location was ideal (close to plenty of downtown pubs and a short walk to Aviva Stadium); staff at checkout was very helpful and polite.

Negatives: charging for internet - in this day and age I'm still amazed that any hotel charges for internet; rude staff when I attempted to inquire about internet - was dismissive and uninformative; laundry - the dry cleaning tickets provided next to the laundry bag clearly said "Monday-Saturday" - when I tried to put out laundry on Saturday morning, I had to track someone down to have them inform me they didn't do it on Saturdays... when I contacted the front desk they finally arranged to have it taken care of, but it was more of a headache than it should have been (had the tickets reflected the policy).

For the price, I am pretty sure I could have stayed somewhere similar without the staff or internet issues.

We booked a triple--one double bed, one twin--to accomodate two adults and a teen. The room was more spacious than I expected, with a sitting area near the window. A supply of excellent tea was replenished daily. A charming touch, our three teacups were always arranged in an interlocking pattern.

The location is great, a short walk to eateries around Trinity College, or to the National Museum, a few more blocks to Grafton shops. Bus stops & DART station nearby.

But the most outstanding feature was the very helpful staff. The folks at the front desk were always available to give advise or help out with tickets or reservations. It was really nice that we did not have to hang around waiting callbacks, etc. Instead, we went out for the day, and when we returned, everything was arranged! I got a feeling of "we are here to help" that, sad to say, I do not often find in the US anymore.

Our dream vacation started here. I felt like I stepped back into time in this classic hotel. Food and service were superb. Felt very welcomed and the people at the reception desk were so friendly and helpful. It was an easy walk to various locations and tourist sites.

I stayed at this hotel in twice in January of this year.
Car Park is located around the corner from the hotel, and if you blink you would pass the entrance as it is not very clearly identified.... I ended up driving around the block twice.
At check in, I was met by a very courteous receptionist, and was allocated my room in a very efficient and swift manner.
The room size was small, but for such a well appointed hotel location, it was fine...
Service in the hotel was very good.. breakfast was very good.
Overall, I would have to say, that it was good value for money.. I would reccommend it
