Description: From Georgina Campbell's Ireland GuideThis restaurant has been Ireland’s benchmark Chinese restaurant for two generations, and is a previous recipient of this award. It should in perhaps be named The Phoenix as, not long after moving to new premises, this family-owned favourite closed last winter and appeared to be a victim of the recession. Then, to the delight of its many fans, it reopened in the summer of 2010 after a six month hiatus. And, to a collective sigh of relief, it soon transpired that its modern interpretations of classic Sichuan cuisine are better than ever: classic dishes like tea smoked duck have been tweaked and given updated presentation by the brigade of young chefs who are reinterpreting traditional Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine with modern style. A special section of "Chef's Recommendations" highlights the kitchen's authentic Sichuan dishes based on centuries old recipes – and well-versed servers explain dishes and their ingredients, offering to tone down the amounts of chilli oil, Sichuan pepper and hot oil, if requested. The layout of the modern dining room has been improved too - and, on fine days, the glass frontage opens onto an inviting outdoor terrace with umbrella tables and seating.

“Excellent cuisine, service leaves a little to be desired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014 via mobile

The sichuan used to be located in Stillorgan some years ago and i believed this was the same establishment, simply relocated. Seemingly this is not the case, according to earlier reviews. Although the location is unusual (in the middle of an industrial estate) the restaurant is very comfortable and nicely decorated.
The fare was excellent, as was the presentation. We had a range of dishes, including rib eye beef, seafood platter, 3 pepper beef and other assorted dishes. All were fully enjoyed, perfect portions and nothing left on the plates! Desserts we were standard offerings - nothing exceptional.
All in all a very satisfactory, if a little expensive, meal.

One slight negative point; although the service was efficient we did think the waiter who served our table might have been a bit more friendly. Struck us that he was a little impatient and not very happy that we queried if the wine he brought to the table was what we had actually ordered (it was). I hasten to add that the rest of the staff were great.

“The best Chinese in Dublin”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

This is exceptional Chinese food in a sophisticated restaurant, but yes the location is a bit unusual. We started with chili soft shell crab and baby calamari. Both excellent. This was followed by 3 pepper rib eye and monkfish yellow bean. The presentation is superb as is the service. A terrific meal accompanied by a soft Spanish red wine, we went home very happy. This stands in a different league to other Asian style restaurants and is a bit more expensive because of that, but represents very good value for money overall.

“Are you all mad?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014 via mobile

Odd location, in the middle of an industrial estate, ok, but heard great things about it. Looked good when we arrived, this is going to be ok, we thought. WRONG!!!!! The food was terrible, inedible infact. Salty beyond belief, i'm still thirsty, despite eating only a couple of spoon fulls. We ordered, amongst other things, prawns in a spicy sauce. What arrived were prawns in breadcrumbs, paxo breadcrumbs, dry and horrible and a stir fried chicken dish that was so full of msg, i and my wife , gagged. Horrible. Descretly complained( have never done so before) but it was so bad, we had to. We were eventually told that the restaurant was owned and staffed by Polish people, fine, except Polish people cant cook chineese food, why should they?? I know i can't cook proper Polish food. I wouldn't try.
Do not go there if you're a fan of Chineese food, you'll be very disappointed. We were. AVOID at all costs.
The staff were very nice, but tried to tell us that we didn't understand Oriental cuisine, little did they know that we had lived in Hong Kong for many years. Couldn't be bothered to set them straight, just wanted to get out. Most miserable dining experience we have ever had.

“Excellent Food in high quality surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

In the middle of an industrial estate, but excellent food, nice ambience and very professional staff make it one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dublin. Not a cheap Chinese, but worth the extra.
