We have just returned from a weekend trip away to Dublin from Leeds Bradford.
The flights with Ryanair were great on the new Boeing 737 - 800 Series planes although not much can be said for the Polish cabin crew as you could not understand a word they were saying. After the safety announcement people were asking if they now repeated it in English!! Anyway the planes were nice and we were only up in the air 25 minutes before making our decent.
From Dublin Airport it is easy to get to the hotel. Outside the main terminal building jump on the regular bus number 16, 16 N or 41 to Drumcondra - Skylon Hotel is part of the route so you just ask for a ticket to Skylon in Drumcondra, the bus stops just opposite the hotel. The journey takes only around 15 minutes and costs only 1 Euro 60. (Buses come every 10 minutes!)
To get into town just jump on any bus saying city centre at that side of the road, tickets only cost 1 Euro 40 into town and it taked about 10 minutes, we did walk it in under 20 minutes as the city centre is just at the bottom of the road, you simply just follow it into the centre. To get back it is best to get the number 16 from O'Connel Street as this is the most frequent - Just look for the big silver tower and you cant miss it!
The other good thing about this hotels location is that the night bus stops here also and leaves town at about 12:15, 02:00 and 03:00 and costs 4 Euro - check on the website.
Hotel Good Points
The reception area is very nice with sofa's, internet access and waiters so you can order drink / snacks.
The bar was very nice and not overpriced. The staff all friendly and food really good.
The rooms were spacious and bathrooms very nice - although like a lot of hotels the baths are ratehr small! Tv, Iron, Kettle and soft bed with extra pillows!
Hotel Bad Points
When we arrived we noticed building work around the hotel. Alot of building work is going on and it is noisy all day so if your planning to stay in bed all day its not a good idea!
Anyway it seems to be a habbit at the moment when i choose hotels but we had no water from about 14:00 - 18:00 which again is not fun when you want a bath or to use the toilet!
The rooms are starting to look dated with things falling apart and generaly looking scruffy.
The view from my window was awful, again things are generally just dated, scruffy and in need of restoration.
Conclusion
I would visit this hotel again but i would wait until all the building work is finished in the summer and the restraunt re - opens in the spring. I found this hotel cheapest on Expedia with a 2 person 2 night stay only £95.00 total.
