Joanne and I stayed at the 'Dublin City Inn' between the 06th March to 09th March 2013. The entrance is a single doorway inbetween two shops. Once inside, you have to wait for the reception to electronically open to door.
The reception is fairly small, but what do you expect.....it's a reception. There is a single average sized lift and a set of stairs for those who fancy the exercise. The staff here are very polite and will assist you with any problems or local knowledge. We arrived early so once booked in about midday and they locked our cases in a cupboard under a flight of stairs so we could go and get lunch.
We asked the staff for a late bookout on Saturday 09th March 13. Due to the hotel being fully booked this was not possible. However the staff did arrange for us to bookout of our room at 14:00hrs instead of midday at no extra cost. They then advised we could use the lounge on the Saturday until we were ready to leave for our flight and they would look after luggage.
The room.....we stayed in room 210 which is on the second floor. The room was clean and fairly well decorated. (Although the room could do with a face lift). As you walk into the room there is a single door to the right. This leads into the shower room/wc.
Once in the bedroom area, there is a wall unit which has various shelves and hanging area for all your clothing, although no doors on the front. There is a small old style TV with remote control. There are ten TV channels for you to watch. There is a kettle with teas and coffee making facilities. Under this on the next shelf down, was the room safe. If you have small cabin size suit cases, you can keep these on the bottom shelf, if not place them on top of the cupboard.
There is a large double bed which had clean bed clothing on and extra pillows on the cupboad. This bed is very comfortable. The bedding did have slight stains on but clean and pressed well. There is a small fixed bedside cabinet on either side of the bed. There is a telephone to contact other rooms, make local or international calls (At a cost) There is also a single chair in the room. There is a large window that opens inwards. The view is that of the street below. If you are a light sleeper or like to get up late, bring ear plugs with you, as you may hear the light traffic or people walking past.
The shower room is a good size, consists of a single shower, wc and basin. There is a mirror above the basin with a shelf. The hotel, provide hand towels, bath towels and a mat for you to place on the floor. ( These are replaced every day for clean ones).
Although the room is fairly small, it was a great base to stay and great value for money.
There is also a room book, containing the hotels, information and local information.
On the first floor, there is the computer room, this is at a cost of 6 euro's and has a printer attached. TIP..... Take your own noteboook, mobile, lap top as there is free WIFI which works very well.
Also next to the computer room, in the lounge, this has various chairs, TV and lots of local tourism information in racks. There is also two food.drink vending machines. There is also a bearkfast room which is clean and appears to be buffet style, but did not use this facility.
Location of hotel. There is a TESCO metro about two minutes up the road. Great for supplies, a chemist across the road to this. The hotel is about 4 - 5 minutes from O'Connell Street Spire and 8-10 minute from Temple bar.
Overall, this hotel is great value for money and not expensive compared to other hotels nearby, comfortable for a short stay and have great staff.
Ask for a room on top floor and at the rear of the hotel as would be quieter.
