“Fantastic service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

We stayed at The Spencer for 4 nights in July, at the tail end of a trans-europe vacation. The hotel is very modern, well decorated and in a great location for walking tours of Dublin. Check-in was friendly and efficient, fortunately as we arrived a bit cranky with Aer Lingus having lost one of our suitcases. The front desk staff were amazing, while we were out being tourists they called the airline repeatedly until finally 3 days later our missing bag was returned. We had 2 rooms, both very comfortable, great showers, espresso machines, blackout blinds and very comfortable beds. The front desk staff were extremely helpful with procuring taxis and tickets for the Abbey too. The food in the Asian restaurant downstairs is so good we were tempted not to bother leaving the hotel in the evenings, while the breakfasts are also excellent. There is a good ambience in the lobby/bar area in the evenings and the pool and gym are well worth a visit. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Dublin - highly recommend.

As a former client of the old Clarion hotel, and a big fan of The Morgan hotel in Temple bar, I was delighted to hear in January that the Fitzpatrick group had taken over the Clarion and were re-branding. Having been located in the IFSC for over 6 years, The Spencer Hotel has breathed new life into what was a very tired building.

The company I work for hosted our relaunch here in July and the staff went above and beyond to ensure our needs were met for the day. Everything from the meeting rooms, lunch in 'The Pantry' and the BBQ were fantastic and I would HIGHLY recommend The Spencer to anyone for business or pleasure.

I would like to commend especially Elaine and Emma in helping to coordinate the launch, Rene and Eddie for ensuring we were well looked after throughout the course of the day and Shane the bar manger for tantalising our taste buds with his AMAZING cocktails!!

We'll be back!

Juls

We used this hotel for the second half of our two cities tour of Ireland. Walking distance from the train station modern boutique style hotel on the River. We had booked a suite for 4 adults ( family of 4 but our daughter is 18) which turned out to be a suite of 2 bedrooms sharing a bathroom, beautifully furnished. Tea and coffee plus water in the room, we would have liked a fridge too as we like fresh milk in our drinks. Great location 15 minute lovely walk along he river to O'Connell street and to centre of Dublin. especially great at night when lit up.the hotel having a pool was great especially for the kids as a bride after having to visit a few bars around the temple bar area. Had a bar meal on the first day, expensive for what it was but okay, had breakfast only on the last day and very disappointed of the quality as 15 euros each even for our 10 year old and cooked side was disappointing. Poor quality sausage, green scrambled eggs so I asked for fresh poached, fatty bacon, no potato cakes, no beans. We advised you go for breakfast a quarter of the price to the bagel bars across the way.

Room Tip: If you want a good river view ask for. Room at the front but high up as on a main road. We were at t...

Dear Sharpees4,

Thank you for your review and feedback.

I apologise that your experience in our breakfast room did not live up to its usually high standard.

While the hotel offers an Irish Breakfast, rather then an English breakfast, baked beans are available and are prepared as requested.

If we are able to welcome you back to the hotel, we will happily organise a fridge for your room with enough notice.

Best Wishes,

Eddie Sweeney

Great rates for their Family Room. Well appointed with a pool on premises and secure parking at reasonable rates. As the title stated, it is a great location for being close to the start of the Rock n Roll Half Marathon...that being said, it is a bit of a hike to reach much else worth seeing. Outside of the hotel restaurant, there isn't much in the vicinity worth trying. You have to get down to O'Connell Street before the dining options become palatable. The hype on the hotel restaurant, in my opinion, is not deserved. Of the three dishes ordered by my family, none rose above the level of passable. This and the lack of staffing at the front desk were the reasons for the 4 versus 5 rating. Although we arrived 1 hour before normal check-in (1500), we ended up waiting until 1600 to finally get into a room. Nearly every encounter with the front desk involved waiting for the normally solitary customer service representative to help the 2 to 3 other customers waiting in line before being able to assist us. Finally, our bill on checkout was incorrect. Although frustrating at times, this was not enough to result in more than a single star downgrade.

Fantastic location for 02 Arena, Canal Theatre, and Stadium's. As this hotel is during the week mostly business clients a good deal can be had Friday to Sunday. Right on the quays by the Famine Ship. Good in house Thai restaurant.

I arrived with a group and our bags were to be deliverd to our rooms, we had two hours to get ready for a dinner and show, after an hour I called the front desk and was told that I will receive my bag within 5 minutes, after another half hour I went downstaires to the lobby, the staff were standing and talking to each other and when I tried to complain that nobody was picking up the phone they completely ignored me, our bags along with most of the group were near the door, I took mine and was not even asked what I am doing, anyone could have taken whatever bag they wanted. Ninety percent of our group did not change for the event. When complaining to the duty manager the next day I was promised an answer, well I am back home three weeks and no mail to even apologize or a reasonable explanation. Discusting servce if you can choose another hotel, not worth all the hastle horrible staff and even worse Duty Manager.

Room Tip: Dont choose this Hotel

The Spencer is a modern, upscale, hotel located on the Liffey River within walking distance to Dublin's town center. It's air conditioned, too, in case that's important to you. The Spencer is about a 20 minute walk along the river to the city center, but there are city buses available. It's located in the former warehouse area which is now refurbished and trendy. There are restaurants and small markets nearby. The only meal we ate in the hotel was breakfast which was an excellent buffet. We had a wonderful dinner in a bookstore/restaurant called The Winding Stair which was located on the opposite side of the Liffey. Highly recommended.
