“Fine, but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

This is not going to be a long review. The saving grace of this place is the fact that they do have a few craft beers available in bottle. Aside from that, they have a fairly standard menu. My friend ordered the fish and chips - I thought the portion was very small indeed. Two tiny fillets of fish. Really, the portion should have been doubled.

I ordered the pork belly. While the meat was flavourful and tender, the skin was hard. Not crispy, but straight up hard. Other than that, my food was fine.

It was busy and the floor staff were in a hurry. Overall, it did the job of getting us a bit of food, but I'd be unlikely to return unless someone else in my group really wanted to go.

“More show than substance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

A trip to "the Goat" can be an experience. From the outside it looks great. There is a huge Car Park and the Pub itself looks great from the outside. Inside it really is hit and miss. It can either be empty or heaving. The food can be good or appalling. The staff can be friendly or grumpy. The only thing that remains consistent is the unjustifiably high prices. You will pay Restaurant prices for often mediocre Pub fare.
Having said that, their Stake specials are good. EUR20 gets you a sizable stake with all the trimmings and a free glass of Wine or Pint of Beer. The Guinness is always good. But deviate from these two staples and quality can be very variable. Complaints about quality are often met with incredulity from senior staff. There are prominent signs on the street stating that the food is "award winning" but if you check the plaques on the wall most of the staff weren't even born when they were awarded...so read into that what you like. The junior floor staff though are friendly and attentive and seem to work (or be worked) hard.
The Pub is cavernous and unlike many Irish Pubs isn't broken into sections where you can have a quite Pint if you want and read your newspaper. Be aware that if there is a Match on TV or any major sporting event you will be forced to endure that nice romantic meal in the middle of a raucous crowd shouting on their team.
A little less of the showboating and more attention to quality and consistency would go a long way to make this venue more appealing.

“Goodish”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

Looking a little tired these days but found the food to be good & the staff ever attentive. Very buzzy inside with a great atmosphere. Prices are about average. Loads of parking & promt service.

“Looks better than it is”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

From the outside, The Goat seemed like a happening place, but we found the inside (as well as the food) to be dated and unpleasant. The food was dry and seemed like it wasn't fresh. Really disappointing.

“Best ever breakfast in Dublin !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

I live in the area now for ten years and enjoy the Goat's breakfast quite often - the best I know in in Dublin. Staff is very attentive and generally food is good although it was much better years ago. The stir-fries in the Goat are well known to be of the best none chinese stir-fries. Live music every Saturday and major sporting events on TV. Very recommendable.
