As the title indicates we went here this year for St. Valentine's Day. We were booked in for early enough (6.30pm). The restaurant was moderately busy when we arrived but not packed, slightly surprising for the day that was in it. The atmosphere was good nonetheless, it's a nice environment, the tables aren't too close together, the music is unobtrusive and the lighting is good.
We were given two different menus to choose from, either the value menu (€25 for two courses) or the a la carte. I liked the fact that the value menu was available, even on Valentine's Day. Despite this we ordered from the a la carte.
We both started with the duck dumplings. These were superb, and the spiced Asian consomme was spectacular. The only slight negative would be that the consomme overpowered the duck.
For mains we had the John Dory and the steak. The John Dory was lovely, a slightly strange mix with the chicken wing but overall a lovely course! The steak was OK, a beautifully tender well cooked steak with a nice Bearnaise sauce but I just maybe expected something a little extra special for a restaurant of this quality. We got sides of , potatoes, chips & green beans - all perfectly cooked & delicious.
The desserts were the highlight I think, particularly as we both have quite a sweet tooth! (teeth!?) We ordered the lemon meringue pie and the mango and passion fruit pannacotta. The presentation and the attention paid to these was beautiful. They tasted even better than they looked!
Overall I would highly recommend, the food is of the highest quality, the service is good, it's in a nice setting & if you don't want to spend too much the value menu is an excellent option.
I'd like to go back again & try something other than the steak, then I'm sure it'd be a 5 star offering!
It did end up adding up to quite an expensive meal (€130+tip) but for food quality vs price it's a hands down winner & worth the price, especially for special occasions.
