“The best tour I had in Dublin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Kilmainham Goal is one of the most interesting places to visit in Dublin. Hop on hop off buses stop just outside the entrance so there shouldn't be any problem getting here. It is a guided tour so you probably will have to wait some time for it to start after entering, but you can look through an interesting museum while waiting. I would recommend the tour for people who already have a knowledge of an irish history. Because, while I had found it very interesting, my boyfriend who can't speak a very good english and who didn't knew anything about people who where doing their time here, was bored.

“Slice of Irish History”

Well guided tour of the old jail that was used to house both criminals and political prisoners. Exhibits in the museum are also interesting.

“Jail”

A very interesting place, especially if you are into history. Well off the beaten path, it takes some work to get there but worth the trip.

“You think eh a tour of an old jail “how fun can that be”.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

You think eh a tour of an old jail “how fun can that be”. It was well worth it for the wealth of historical information you learn on this tour about Ireland and its historical figures. In the States we don’t grow up learning about Irish historical figures, we learn about Washington and Lincoln. Irish are very proud of their heritage and Kilmainham is clearly part of it.

We walked from Temple Bar to Guinness Storehouse and on to Kilmainham. I would say it was easy to navigate looking at a few tourist maps. About 2 miles one way. My wife and I typically don’t mind walking when travelling. To us a few miles is pretty easy. I imagine most taxi or bus out.

Our tour guide was great, with lots of information, and great personality. You walk through corridors, cells, main cell management area, and courtyards. Lighting is dim so be mindful when taking pictures.
