Owner description: The Abbey Theatre's founders W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory had the vision to 'bring upon the stage the deeper thoughts and emotions of Ireland'. Today in our 110th anniversary year that mission is alive and well. Our ambitious artistic programme of classic Irish drama to new Irish writing holds a mirror up to Irish society. Over the years, the Abbey has nurtured and premiered the work of major Irish playwrights such as Marina Carr, Frank Mc Guinness, Tom Murphy and a new generation of writers such as Richard Dormer, Stacey Gregg, Nancy Harris and Elaine Murphy. We also nurture a new generation of Irish artists through our artistic development programmes and commitment to discovering new acting, writing and directing talent.

“See it if you can!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Having only one night in Dublin to see live theatre, it was a tough call: An experimental piece or a classic? I chose the classic by George Bernard Shaw, at the Abbey Theatre: Major Barbara. I was not sorry. For a student price of 20 EU, I scored sixth row center seats for one of the best political dramas ever written. The production and sets were excellent. But more importantly, Shaw held up better than I could have imagined in today's world. I was uplifted and enlightened, and left the theater with much to think about. What more can we ask?

“Abbey Theatre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We booked our tickets months before we left Australia to see Riverdance at the Abbey Theatre. We had 2nd row seats and thoroughly enjoyed the show. We saw Riverdance in Brisbane 2yrs ago and thought it could not get any better. But this show was amazing. Theatre was lovely old world, seats comfortable. So happy we saw it at the Abbey theatre.

“Great Evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Historic theater with very high quality productions. I saw "Major Barbara" and stayed afterward to meet the cast over drinks with a Jazz Band playing.

“Great play every time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

We saw Major Barbara. It was well-cast and done with great humor. We had seen it earlier this year at American Players Theatre in the US and this version was just as entertaining.
