Owner description: The Abbey Theatre's founders W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory had the vision to 'bring upon the stage the deeper thoughts and emotions of Ireland'. Today in our 110th anniversary year that mission is alive and well. Our ambitious artistic programme of classic Irish drama to new Irish writing holds a mirror up to Irish society. Over the years, the Abbey has nurtured and premiered the work of major Irish playwrights such as Marina Carr, Frank Mc Guinness, Tom Murphy and a new generation of writers such as Richard Dormer, Stacey Gregg, Nancy Harris and Elaine Murphy. We also nurture a new generation of Irish artists through our artistic development programmes and commitment to discovering new acting, writing and directing talent.

“"Shush" a hit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Went to the Abbey Theatre and now I'm itchin' to go back! We saw "Shush" and had a great time! The cast was wonderful and absolutely hilarious and we got to learn a bit about Irish families (or women, at least)!

“Abbey Theatre is the Home of Irish Drama”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

We were here for the comedy Shush. The play was funny, and the acting was top notch. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately, the historic theater building where the legendary Irish plays of the early Twentieth Century debuted burned in 1951. This modern building opened nearly a decade later. The theater itself isn't much to look at, but the acoustics and sight lines were excellent. For anyone who enjoys theater or Irish culture, a stop here is a must.

“An enjoyable venue to experience the theatre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We saw the world premier of Shush. The play was a comedy and quite well done. The theatre has stadium seating so viewing is good from most seats.

“nice room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

We were able to catch a show here during a short stay in Dublin. Hard to complain: top notch acting, a new production ("Shush"), a great room to see theatre, and very reasonable prices. What's not to like.

“Backstage tour highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Took the Abbey backstage tour and found it excellent. Interesting to see the dressing rooms, wigs, shoes and hear some anecdotes from the front-of-house guy, Paul, who took us round. Fun to be on the stage too, and inspired me to take in a play in evening.
