“Old World Elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

Aberdeen Lodge is a beautiful, comfortable, and elegant accommodation. I had a lovely room which was clean and nicely appointed. The bathroom was modern. Breakfast in the dining room was an experience - cloth tablecloths, lovely dishes, and best of all, of course, was the delicious food. It was truly fine dining. The innkeeper, Ann, was helpful and friendly and very welcoming. I would highly recommend Aberdeen Lodge to anyone visiting Dublin proper, which was near enough to get to easily while being outside the hustle and bustle of the city.

We were somewhat apprehensive even though Trip Advisor rated this B&B highly as we could not, in advance, know the character of the neighborhood where it was located, or how far it was from centre city. Weren't we pleased to know on arrival that it is in a beautiful residential neighborhood that was sublimely quiet. We were greeted upon arrival after a five hour trek from Killarney by Daniel who took our heavy bags upstairs while we drank the tea and had biscuits that he so kindly offered the weary travelers. Then he joined us and presented us with maps of Dublin and helped us create an itinerary for our two day, three night stay in Dublin. Then he booked a reservation at a wonderful restaurant that was a short walk from Aberdeen Lodge. As he said the DART was the way to get into Dublin. They run often, are very close to the B&B and reasonable in price. 10 minutes and you are at Trinity College, a great place to start any Dublin visit. The food at Aberdeen for breakfast was wonderful. Everybody there tried to make our stay perfect and they succeeded! I would think of no other place to stay when we return to Dublin. Thanks to all there!

Stayed here for 4nights and felt like we were at home. Wonderful warm small hotel. Staff couldn't be better. Lovely location in Sandymount, a suburb of Dublin and a 10 minute walk and BART(rapid train downtown) to downtown.Short stroll to charming business area with shops restaurants and pub. Great breakfast. Calm but gracious neighbourhood of majestic homes. The best

The Aberdeen lodge was a perfect way to start our Ireland vacation. The location is near both train and bus transportation. The neighborhood is all royal old homes like the Lodge and it is nice to get away from the bustle of downtown Dublin for a good nights sleep. Lu, who greated us upon arrival brought us coffee and biscuits with jam and then she gave us a perfect overview of the town complete with a map. A very friendly cat stays in the parlor and loves to be petted. Breakfast is served from 7:00 A.M. till 10:00 A.M. which is perfect. The building is very secure just be sure to get an entry card if you plan to be out after 11:00 P.M. Sparkling water is provided in the room as are great robes. We were let into our room by 11:30 A. M. so we could rest after the flight here and before checking out the sights. I would definitely recommend the Aberdeen Lodge to anyone coming to Dublin.

My husband and I stayed in a wonderful room overlooking the back garden and my sister had a lovely single room. We all found the hotel to be very, very nice with gorgeous furnishings, beautiful beds and the best breakfasts of our trip. The staff were very attentive and helpful and Anne and family delightful. We had everything we needed, felt well looked after and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is a bit out of the city centre and you must leave your key at the door which was a bit of a nuisance for me as it gave me a good excuse to skip my morning run! Otherwise, just perfect for us.

Stayed for one night only while awaiting a(very) early morning ferry trip. Staff were superb with arrangements to get away by 7.00 AM, and made certain we were "fed and watered". Parking right at the front, room was comfortable and well equipped, hotel in a very "up-market" part of Dublin. 5 minutes walk to ceap and frequent DART railway and town centre, (or anywhere else). Would be happy to stay again.

We chose the Aberdeen Lodge based on Trip Advisor reviews and its location outside the city centre of Dublin. The other reviews we read before booking emphasized the quiet charm and exceptional staff of the Aberdeen. From the moment we arrived until our departure we were contantly reminded of those qualities.

We arrived at the Aberdeen Lodge mid-morning after an overnight flight from Philadelphia. We were greeted at the door, escorted to the large common living room area of the hotel and asked if we wanted coffee or tea. We were told that our room would be ready in 45 minutes. Apparently we wore our exhaustion of our faces, and we were treated accordingly. Our room was ready in 15 minutes. During that time we were treated to an explanation of the Lodge, to local area, including restuarants and pubs within walking distance, directions to the beach and to the light rail station to city centre. The young female staff members on duty at the time even lugged our heavy suitcases up the 3 flights of steps to our room before we were escorted there.
This level of attentiveness and service continued throughout the rest of our 3 day stay.

Our room was large by European standards and well appointed. All areas of the Lodge are exceptionally clean and tidy. The breakfast area is small but charming, affording a large window overlooking the quiet garden behind the lodge, and breakfast included a
cold breakfast buffet with fresh fruit and cereals and a choice of hot breakfast items made to order from the kitchen. All was plentiful and well-prepared and served.

The Lodge truly was a haven to return to after spending a day in crowded and noisy Dublin.
It lies in a quiet suburban residential area within walking distance to the small town/village of Sandymount where we walked to dinner each night after returning from a day spent in the city.
dining in Sandymount included two pleasant and busy pubs, pizza shop, and a fine Italian restaurant with a good wine selection. The walk was pleasant on uncrowded residential area sidewalks.

Finally, the Aberdeen Lodge is indeed about 5-10 minutes from a convenient DART station which provided quick visits to city centre to a station in Dublin close to Trinity College. All options were explained clearly to us by the members of the Aberdeen staff, who were truly friendly, efficient and helpful.

We would recommend Aberdeen Lodge to any of our friends traveling to or through Dublin.
It is a very special place in a very special place with a very special staff.

Room Tip: The rooms on the front of the Lodge probably get more street noise from the somewhat busy residentia...
