“Great location. Good Value.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012

Amazing location for exploring Dublin. These are college dorm rooms, so know that going in, don't be looking for B&B trappings and you'll be OK. The staff is helpful. Good, solid breakfast. Mediocre shower water-pressure. We had no issues with sleeping at all. One important thing to be aware of: the front gate to the University closes early in the evening... which means a significant walk around campus to the 24-hour gate, and then back to your accommodations back by the front gate that had been locked. It wasn't a huge issue, but for us on one night we were particularly tired after a day of walking and it wasn't ideal.

Room Tip: These are "dorm" rooms. Simple & Spartan (yet, clean). Know that going in and you'...

In July 2011, I stayed for a week in an apartment of the College. The central location, the presence of many bus routes and museums nearby attracted me to this college. The ground are magnificent and can be toured in a small group with a student as a guide. Mine was not only knowledgeable but also very funny.

The apartment consist of an individual bedroom (locked by a key) and a toilet, a shower, a kitchen and living room shared by all guests. My only problem reside with the constant noise made by each doors when closed. The bang heard at all time of night and morning woke me up time after time. If you are not a sound sleeper avoid this formula.

I paid 56 euros a night to stay in a single room in building 48. Because I booked through an organization called English Matters I got reduced housekeeping, which meant the room was only cleaned once a week and I only got a clean towel once a week as well. There was no bath tub, no tv, no radio, no lift, no balcony, a very small bed and for wifi you have to pay 15 euros a week and then they can't even promise you get good reception in the room. There is much cheaper and better accomodation in the centre of Dublin: so please go there. I do want to say something positive: the location at trinity college is nice and when I lost my key card I didn't have to pay for a new one.

My wife and I really enjoyed stopping by the college as we explored the city. It is worth a stop if you are walking through for two reasons (1. Its free) and (2. Its an iconic Irish landmark). Serves as an excellent photo opportunity as the grounds are impressive and a place to stop and rest during your daily trek. One thing I would strongly caution against is the "Book of Kells" viewing. The Book of Kells is an famous historical text describing the origins of Irish ancestry however unless you are a major historian buff, Irish decent, or really like exhibits it isn't worth the $20 fee. The real benefit of the area is the area itself, and that's free.

We stayed two nights in July 2012 in twin rooms and enjoyed the experience. Continental breakfast was included in the Buttery. The rooms are basic (being vacated student accommodation) and the bathroom is tight but perfect if you only want somewhere to act as a base to explore the city. The view out our window across the main quad put me in mind of 'Educating Rita' or some such 'olde world' movie. (In fact I would recommend foreign tourists spend one night on campus as it will give them a better feel for the TCD experience than simply following a 30 minute guided tour. A simple pleasure is taking your lunch over by the cricket pavilion for example.) I was particularly impressed by the fact that the house keeping staff managed to track down some stuff I'd left behind and that Imar in Accommodation Office followed up with a phone call to say they had located it. Sometimes you won't get that service in a hotel!

Only quibble was my bed was a bit hard but that maybe me!

Myself and my daughter stayed one night in the Goldsmith Hall accommodation. This was the night of Westlife's final concert and, as we did not initially have tickets to the concert, I was grateful to have secured this very central accommodation at relatively short notice. Although it was a bit confusing to actually find the rooms after checking in, once there we found them to be very pleasant with all the basic essentials and to be really clean and comfortable. Fresh towels were provided and there was even a little kitchen area - which I was very impressed to note was fully equipped right down to the cups, teabags, UHT milk etc. enabling us to make a cup of tea that night. After an excellent night's sleep I was again very pleasantly surprised to find that the `continental breakfast' (which I was expecting to be perhaps tea/coffee and a croissante) was in fact a three course affair with an excellent selection of cereal, juices, warm scones and croissantes, jams, assorted fruits, tea, coffee etc. The man in charge of the restaurant was also particularly helpful. All in all I was very impressed by the standard of this accommodation and would certainly highly recommend it - especially to groups of friends seeking good clean affordable accommodation in the centre of Dublin. Just make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to negotiate your way around the campus as it will take some time to actually locate your room!:-)
