I have been to this cafe / restaurant several times with my husband - drawn back by the delicious bakes (I've since bought and tried out a cookery book I noticed on their shelf! The recipes work!).
However, I have reservations because of the service. The staff, while courteous, seem not to be guided or supervised. On each occasion, for example, our cakes were served, we paid but then had to stand, amid other queuing customers, for our beverages. Space was an issue, plus the confusion caused to other patrons as to why we were there, in their way. On each occasion, the wait seemed prolonged but we were disinclined to occupy a table, feeling that those were for customers whose orders had already been fulfilled.
When, eventually, we did reach the table stage, we found that, on each occasion, the vacated tables had not been cleared - not just ours but all - today, in fact, tables adjacent to ours, vacated before our arrival, had not even been cleared by the time we were leaving. We cleared ours for the next occupants!
There are various possible reasons for this - understaffing, inefficient use of staff time, lack of supervision of staff activity - for example, a staff member was engaged throughout our visit in clearing a display, perhaps in anticipation of a quick exit at end of day. Two others were talking - perhaps on issues relevant to the business, I have no idea. The customers present at that time should perhaps have taken precedence..
It seems unfair to me that staff should be put in a position of offering a service but left inadequate to the task... The cakes may not be enough to draw us back again.
