At the end of the day, after what seems to have been a very enjoyable evening at any restaurant, 2 serious questions arise : would you want to go there again & would you strongly recommend the venue to your friends ? From our very recent experience of Il Vicoletto, our answer to both questions is a definite YES !
Here's why. Having booked a week in advance we got a warm response then and on arrival - friendly without being painfully effusive. Our table was well-placed, our Waiter professionally took us through the various menu options and helpfully gave us the space to consider what we wanted.
We noted the many choices - for instance, if you came early, there was an "Early Bird" 2 Course at Euro 17-50, there was a longer lasting 3 Course (set-dinner) for Euro 25-90 and there was also an impressive A la Carte Menu : 10 Starters from Euro 5.50 - 14.90, 8 Pastas from Euro 12.50 - 16.50 and 9 equally well-priced Mains. So far so good !
For Starters we eventually opted for a Scallops + Prawns "Special" and the House Antipasto (negotiations for a half-portion of this sadly failed) ; for Mains, we went with a Ragu and a Veal Escallop dish. Our Waiter noted our orders, and we discussed wine (we were on a special night so were prepared to "push the boat out"). A query about the relative merits of two listed "Reds" upped the restaurant's already impressive performance - the Manager (Christian) appeared and debated our options, displaying a genuine passion for wine, without sounding "superior" or condescending or indeed pushing us to "splurge". We accepted his recommendation as regards the "Red", noting he wasn't surcharging us for the particular year he was serving-up (we had already selected Fiano as our "White")
And the overall delivery ? Well, the Scallops/Prawns dish was disappointing as regards sauce flavour and the quite expensive Antipasto was tasty but larger than desired. The Mains were far better : the Veal Escallops were very good and the Ragu was rated "outstanding" ! As for the wines, the Fiano was excellent, and the recommended "Red" was even more than that - neither was over-priced. Let's confess : we really enjoyed the mix of Mains' flavours and the accompanying wines !
Already impressed, we considered the 7 Dessert choices, with only one of us seriously interested in adding to what was already a very good meal. Here, the Manager again appeared and helped - my "better half" was favouring a pear dish, but Christian politely explained that this was an extremely "sweet" dish, so, having talked about the merits of the Tirimasu, the choice made was a Chocolate Fondant, which proved delicious.
We were further impressed to be provided with a complimentary Sambucca + Limoncella, paid what we considered a very reasonable Bill, and departed very satisfied...
This was a very enjoyable evening at Il Vicoletto - it's quite a compact restaurant, but it has a good atmosphere, and the staff (especially Christian) are extremely good hosts. To repeat, we will go there again, and we certainly will recommend it to our friends....Can we say more ?
