“Good, acceptable hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

Stayed at this hotel as part of a “Grand Tour of Ireland” trip with JustGo Holidays.
JustGo value for money cannot be faulted, but I would suggest researching the hotels they use carefully as some of them can be “Iffy”. If you are travelling with this company be prepared for regimental timing at all hotels, particularly in the eating department !!
this was the second hotel of our tour, and I personally found it okay, however, as I see some have complained about the noise of a disco, a problem I had at another hotel, do your homework carefully!
The room was okay but smelt of tobacco which as a non smoker was not so good and as we were in the front of the hotel over the main road we could not have the window open at night.
Staff and food were both good.

stayed in this hotel for a wedding. In fairness we had a late drink but as we were leaving towards the reception area the floor was being cleaned. I just made the manager(junior white) aware that there was no wet floor sign out ( for his own good....) he replied by calling me a lunatic!!!! not impressive! so who responsible if someone fell on that floor???? i tried to help the hotel by not handing out compo by people who could have fallen on that floor but sure what good was that going to do when i got that abuse from the owners son!!!

We stayed at the abbey hotel recently for a celebration. We had a brilliant time from start to finish. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had a meal in the restaurant with a bottle of wine. It was so reasonable. The abbey bar was great fun and the band really made the night. Donegal town is lovely, with some nice little shops and bars. It is full of culture and the castle is noce too. Lough eske nearby is stunning. The abbey hotel is a great base for any weekend as it is so central. We also ate lunch in the central (its sister hotel) which was also lovely. The room was nice, clean and perfect for a getaway at a good rate. The manager Mr O Donnell was great and even though the hotel was very busy that night he was able to take time to see that his guests were happy. We would be delighted to stay in the abbey again. Thank you abbey hotel for a memorable weekend. True Irish hospitality at its best.

Room Tip: We had a diamond view. Bay view also nice.

Room ok and mine of reasonable size - tissues are provided. Attentive and friendly staff, central location on town square. Food in restaurant quite good although a little pricey. Excellent wi-fi in central areas.

Room Tip: Bar regularly has entertainment, so ask to be away from that. Fourth floor accessed only by stairs f...

party of five stayed last weekend. Room 242 very uncomfortable due to heat. Wrong types of room allocated, reception were unfriendly and upon giving the receptionist feedback on checkout it was 'my fault' for not calling down to tell them! Food was good, restaurant staff were friendly and the bar staff were excellent. It has always been great for big chairs in foyer, very disappointed that on both days this area was cleared (chairs were not even moved down the corridor) for wedding reception. I love the Abbey, really great location and I am sad that it is going down hill - serious training needed for FOH staff.

Room Tip: avoid room 242.

Stayed at the hotel on Friday and Saturday, 14th and15th Sept 2012. Hotel was ok and family room was good, until we experienced the noise at night. Both nights were very noisy with crowds gathering in the square from the Nightclub on the ground floor of the hotel. The noise kept us awake until around 5pm... It was dreadful. I spoke to the reception as we left and received little sympathy from them as the noise was outside. The Nightclub is owned by the hotel so this problem will not be resolved.

Room Tip: Must be at the back!
