“10th in town, naaa. Should be higher”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

I had haddock fish and chips. The haddock fillet was cooked to perfection (a proper fillet mind you, not a wedge like with cod), the tartar sauce lovely. My wife had the seafood pie and marveled at the abundance of sea food. Lovely atmosphere in what may appear touristy, but is more just real old. Great space. Winner.

Thank you for your kind comments and taking the trouble to write a review.
We cannot understand trip advisors rating system either which can be skewed by properties with relatively few reviews showing a relatively high proportion of positive reviews.
we have queried same but did not get a satisfactory responce.

“A great place to be!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We had an excellent lunch on a very rainy day. We particularly enjoyed the Irish Stew and the Chicken curry! The fireplace in the pub section was also very appreciable! The service was quick and the staff very nice. As for the price it was really affordable. A nice place to unwind.

“Unexpected surprise”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

2 couples after a tour of the castle opposite stopped for a quick lunch .Had low expectations given "trap" location adjacent to a tourist site. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food which when it finally came was terrific.I especially recommend the Venison pie which is world class. The downside was the fact that although we told the server we were in a hurry the restaurent sat us down ; took our order .then served a large obviously known local group which came in after us.
Unexceptible service but great food.

Thank you for your review.
we are most fortunate in that we enjoy a great location directly opposite Donegal Castle. We can never understand why a well located Restaurant should depend on its location rather then the quality of food for business. In a small town like Donegal we very much depend on our local trade as well as our welcome visitors. A pity you didnt take up the matter of the local group being served first with our team. we would have been happy to explain we have a regular booking from a local educational institute who order their lunch two hours in advance as they only have a very short lunch break.Their meal is prepared by our Chefs to be served the minute they arrive.
all other orders are taken in rotation though if a customer requests priority we try to oblige.

“YUM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

This place is across the street from the Donegal Castle on the corner. It was so good we ate there both nights in town! Carrot and Corriander soup was awesome. Irish stew was magnificant. AND of course the pints were top notch too LOL

Delighted you enjoyed your meals with us. Our Red Hugh Brew, specially brewed locally for the Olde Castle is my favourite beer with a meal.
Hope we will see you in donegal again.
