This came up on one of the well known voucher sites again and, having been reasonably happy with our first outing here a number of months ago, we decided to roll the dice again and return to one of Cork's more maverick establishments. Turned out that it was a good call. The menu ranged from crab sushi, delicous aubergine and tofu, to conger eel boudain, to venison chimchanga, to duo of beef, to tom yum sea bream and so on. Everything was absolutely delicious apart from a sunchoke purée that was a little bland but this would perhaps be down to the difficulty of sourcing tastier sunchokes in these more northerly climes. A small matter, I'm sure you'll agree. The particular dishes on the menu, their constituent ingredients and serving sizes, and the additional servings of super-tasty fresh bread meant that all-in-all I was far more satisfied than I had been on the last visit. I had been slightly on the fence after losing my Ivory Tower virginity but the crew there showed us a really good time on this revisit and I felt the food was of a better overall standard and was more worthy of what the normal asking price for the tasting menu would be. Credit where credit is due, they also learned from the mistakes of last time and are not trying to squeeze in two rounds of the 8-course menu now, instead opting for a 5-course earlier in the evening to allow time for the tables to be clear for the later sitting. Wine is still a little cheekily priced here but there is a good selection to choose from and it goes well with the food. Small remark that, this time, the bathroom door was lacking a lock which is far from ideal in a unisex loo - ok for a man doing his stand-up business but, in any other scenario, one is literally caught with one's pants down :) An easy thing to fix so I imagine that they'll be on it quickly. Service is brisk as there is only really one person covering the room but it is friendly and helpful when required. If you're adventurous in your eating then I would encourage you to give the place a try - whether you enjoy it or not might be entirely down to the menu selection on the night but it will give you a taste for one of Cork's more unusual eateries and could also give you the taste for more. Top marks on this occasion!

Thanks in particular for your very kind comments on the food and the quality of the service.
As for the loo door - what can we say? A slight technical malfunction ... it was fixed the next morning :-)
Hope to see you again soon.
